Music can best express man's greatest joys and
deepest sorrows, for of all the arts it is the most
eloquent.

Music figures much in literature, because great
writers have always instinctively realised its
importance.

Music", said Congreve, can soothe the savage
breast. And Shakespeare famously observed: The
man that hath no music in himself, and is not moved
with concord of sweet sounds, is fit for treasons,
stratagems and spoils.
