- Replace the batteries when the OPR/BATT indicator )2 dims or when the unit stops operating.
Replace all the batteries with new ones. Before you replace the batteries, be sure to take out the CD from the unit.
I To use the unit on batteries, disconnect the AC power cord from the unit.
- When you operate the unit on batteries, you cannot turn on the unit using the remote.

Preparing the remote
Insert two R03 (size AAA) batteries (not supplied).

Replacing batteries
With normal use, the batteries should last for about six months. When the remote no longer operates the unit, replace all
the batteries with new ones.

The use of optical instruments with this product will

A DualDisc is a two sided disc product which mates

Once you have installed the XM Mini7Tuner Dock, inserted the XM
Mini7Tuner, connected the XM Dock to your XM Ready home audio
system, and installed the antenna, you are ready to subscribe and

eight character XM Radio ID: on the XM Mim7Tuner, on the XM
Mini7'luner package, and on XM Channel 0. Record the Radio ID in

Listening to PM or AM radio

To listen to FM or AM

1 Press RADIO BAND-AUTO PRESET on the unit
(RADIO-BAND @ on the remote) repeatedly to
select FM or AM.

2 Hold downTUNE/CHANNEL+or- untilthe
frequency digits begin to change in the display.
The unit automatically scans the radio frequencies and
stops when it finds a clear station.
If you cannot tune in a station, press TUNE/
CHANNEL + or 7 7 repeatedly to change the
frequency step by step.
When an FM stereo broadcast is received, ST
appears.

Tip
If the FM broadcast is noisy, press MODE E until MONO" appears
in the display and the radio will play in monaural.

Listening to satel I e radio

You can operate and listen to XM or SIRIUS satellite
radio by connecting an optional antenna or tuner. Before
using the unit, connect the XM Mini-Tuner and Home
Dock or the SiriusConnect Home tuner to the unit.

Connect the XM Mini-Tuner and Home Dock to the XM
jack E on the unit, or the SIRIUS Connect Home tuner
to the SIRIUS connector on the unit. You can also
connect both tuner units.

During Shuffle Play, you cannot select the previous track by pressing

Creating your own program (Program

Play)

You can arrange the playing order of up to 20 tracks on

a CD.

1 Press CD fl.
CD appears in the display.

2 Press MODE IE repeatedly untilPGMflashes in the
display,

3 Press « I44 or »I>>| (K4 orb»! on the
remote) then press ENTER for the tracks you
want to program in the order you want.

buttons for the tracks you want to program in the

Stop playing first. Then press MODE IE repeatedly until
PGM disappears from the display.

To delete the last track of the program
Press CLEAR on the remote while the player is
stopped.

To check the order of tracks before play
Press ENTER I.

Every time you press the button, the track number
appears in the programed order.

To change the current program

Press I once if the CD is stopped and twice if the
CD is playing. The current program will be erased.
Then create a new program following the programing
procedure.

Tips

. if you try to program 21 tracks or more, FULL will appear in the
display.

- You can play the same program again, since the program is saved
until you open the CD tray or turn ofi the power of the unit.

Presetting PM or AM radio stations

You can store radio stations into the units memory. You
can preset up to 30 radio stations, 20 for FM and 10 for
AM in any order.

1 Press RADIO BANDcAUTO PRESET IE on the unit to
select the band.

2 Hold down RADIO BAND°AUTO PRESET @ on the
unit for 2 seconds until lAUTOflashes in the display,

3 Press ENTER whileAUTO"flashes in the display.

The stations are stored in memory from the lower
frequencies to the higher ones.

If a station cannot be preset automatically
You need to preset a station with a weak signal manually.

1 Press RADIO BAND-AUTO PRESET IE on the unit to
select the band.

2 Tune in a station you want,

3 Hold down ENTER on the unit for 2 seconds until
the preset number flashes in the display.

4 Press PRESET/CATEGORY + or- on the unit until
the preset number you want for the station flashes
in the display.

5 Press ENTER
The new station replaces the old one.

1 Press RADIO-BAND repeatedly until the band
you want appears in the display.

2 Tune in a station you want,

3 Hold down the number buttons @l that you want to
preset the new station on for about 2 seconds.
To select a one~digit preset number, hold down the
number for about 2 seconds.
To select a two-digit preset number, press the first
digit, and then hold down the second digit for about
2 seconds.

Tip
The preset radio stations remain in memory even if you unplug the
AC power cord or remove the batteries.

select the band.

2 Press PRESET/CATEGORY + or - on the unit
(PRESET + or - on the remote) to tune in the
stored station.

1 Press RADIO-BAND IE

2 Press the number buttons IE, and then press ENTER
to tune in the stored station.

Presetting satellite radio channels
You can preset up to 20 XM and 20 SIRIUS channels.

1 Do steps I to 5 of To listen to XM or S|R|US"to
select the channel you want to preset.

2 Hold down ENTER for 2 seconds or more.
The preset number I" (default setting) flashes if it
is the first time to do the procedure, or the preset
number immediately following the last preset number
added.

3 Press PRESET/CATEGORY (PRESET + or a on
the remote) repeatedly to select your desired preset
number.

4 Press ENTER I.

Note
You cannot preset XM or SIRIUS channels except when you reserve
the channel.

Playing preset satellite radio

1 Do stepsl to 4 of "To listen to XM or SIRIUS"to
select the channel you want to preset,

2 Press PRESET/CATEGORY + or - (PRESET + or -
on the remote) repeatedly to select your desired
preset channel in All Channel mode,

Each time you press DISPLAY IE on the unit, the display
will change as follows;

Restricting access to specific
channels (SIRIUS only)

Parental Lock

You can restrict access to certain channels using

your own password, The password is set to 0000

as the default. Change the password before you use

this function for the first time (see To change the

passwor ").

1 While the SIRIUS channel you want to lock is
selected, press PARENTAL LOCK IE on the remote,
LOCK flashes in the display.

2 Press ENTER I.

ENTERCODE appears in the display.

3 Enter a 4-digit password using the number buttons

on the remote,

COMPLETE appears in the display. If INVALID

appears, repeat steps I to 3.

To delete the number you have entered
Press CLEAR on the remote repeatedly.

To change the password
1 While the SIRIUS channel is selected, press

PARENTAL LOCK on the remote repeatedly until
lEDIT CODE"flashes in the display.

2 Press ENTER I,
OLD CODE appears in the display.

3 Enter the current 4-digit password using the
number buttons on the remote.
NEW CODE appears in the display.

4 Enter a new 4-digit password using the number
buttons IE on the remote,
CONFIRM" appears in the display.

5 Re-enter the new password to confirm it.

COMPLETE" appears in the display If INVALID"
appears, repeat steps 1 to 5.

To listen to the locked channels

1 Select a locked channels you want to listen to using
the number buttons IE on the remote,

ENTERCODE appears in the display.

2 Enter your 4-digit password using the number
buttons IE on the remote,

The channel is tuned in.

To unlock a channel

1 While the SIRIUS channel you want to unlock is
selected, press PARENTAL LOCK on the remote
repeatedly untilUNLOCKflashes in the display.

2 Press ENTER I,
COMPLETE" appears in the display

Notes

. When you select a channel using TUNE/CHANNEL + or 7
channel mode or Category mode, locked channels are skipped

- The display will return to the original indication ifyou press I
or if no entry is made for a set period of time after you have been
prompted to enter the password.

. When the unit is reset to the factory settings, the Parental Lock
password returns to the default (0000"), but Parental Lock settings
are not removed.

. You cannot preset locked channels.

e if you set the Parental Lock for a preset channel, the preset
information for that channel returns to the default.

. You cannot set the Parental Lock for channels 0 or 184.

Falling asleep to music

Play the music source you want.
2 Press SLEEP on the unit to displaySLEER"

Press SLEEP on the unit to select the minutes
until the unit goes off automatically.

Each time you press the button, the indication changes
as follows:

AUTO - 60MIN -* "30MIN" - 20MIN ->
l OMIN - OFF".

' when you select AUTO, the CD stops playing in 90 minutes at

most and the unit goes off automatically. When you are listemng
to the radio, the radio goes off in 90 minutes.

If 4 seconds have passed after you pressed SLEEP I,
the minutes in the display are entered.

When the preset time has passed, the unit goes off
automatically.

To cancel the sleep function
Press POWER El to turn off the power.

Tip
The displays backlight goes off while sleeping time is active.

Connecting optional component

You can enjoy the sound from a PC, TV, VCR, portable
digital music player, etc. through the speakers of this unit,
Be sure to turn off the power of each component before
making any connections,

For details, refer to the instruction manual of the
component to be connected.

1 Connect the AUDIO INjack on the unit to the
line output jack of the portable digital music player
or other components using an audio connecting
cable* (not supplied).

For a PC: use a cable which fills the connector of your PC.
For a TV or VCR: use a cable with a stereosmim plug on one
end and two phono plugs on the other end.

For a portable digital music player: use a cable with a stereo
rnini plug on both ends.

with an incompatible recording device

I CDrR/CD-RW which is finalized incorrectly

Notes on discs

I Before playing, clean the CD with a cleaning cloth,
Wipe the CD from the center out, If there is a scratch,
dirt or fingerprints on the CD, it may cause tracking
error,

I Do not use solvents such as benzine, thinner,
commercially available cleaners or anti-static spray
intended for vinyl LPS.

0 Do not expose the CD to direct sunlight or heat sources
such as hot air ducts, nor leave it in a car parked in
direct sunlight as there can be a considerable rise in
temperature inside the car.

I Do not stick paper or sticker on the CD, nor scratch the
surface of the CD.

I After playing, store the CD in its case.

On safety

I As the laser beam used in the CD player section is
harmful to the eyes, do not attempt to disassemble the
casing. Refer servicing to qualified personnel only.

I Should any solid object or liquid fall into the unit,
unplug the unit, and have it checked by qualified
personnel before operating it any further,

I Discs with non-standard shapes (e.g., heart, square,
star) cannot be played on this unit. Attempting to do so
may damage the unit. Do not use such discs.

0n power sources

I For AC operation, use the supplied AC power cord; do
not use any other type.

I The unit is not disconnected from the AC power source
(mains) as long as it is connected to the wall outlet,
even if the unit itself has been turned off.

I Unplug the unit from the wall outlet when it is not used
for an extended period of time.

I When the batteries are not to be used, remove them to
avoid damage that can be caused by battery leakage or
corrosion.

I The nameplate indicating operating voltage, power
consumption, etc, is located at the bottom.

0n placement

I Do not leave the unit in a location near heat sources,
in a place subject to direct sunlight, excessive dust or
mechanical shock or in a car subject to the direct rays
of the sun.

I Do not place the unit on an inclined or unstable place.

I Do not place anything within 10 mm of the side of the
cabinet. The ventilation holes must be unobstructed for
the unit to operate properly and prolong the life of its
components.

I Since a strong magnet is used for the speakers, keep
personal credit cards using magnetic coding or spring
wound watches away from the unit to prevent possible
damage from the magnet.

0n operation

I If the unit is brought directly from a cold to a warm
location, or is placed in a very damp room, moisture
may condense on the lens inside the CD player section.
Should this occur, the unit will not operate properly. In
this case, remove the CD and wait about an hour for the
moisture to evaporate.

Cleaning the cabinet

I Clean the cabinet, panel and controls with a soft cloth
slightly moistened with a mild detergent solution. Do
not use any type of abrasive pad, scouring powder, or
solvent, such as alcohol or benzine.

Troubleshoot ng

General

The power is not on.

. Connect the AC power cord to the wall outlet securely.

0 Make sure the batteries are inserted correctly.

I Replace all the batteries with new ones if they are weak.

I You cannot turn on the unit with the remote when you
operate the unit on batteries.

There is no audio.

I Make sure the function you want to use appears in the
display window.

- Unplug the headphones when listening through
speakers.

Noise is heard.

0 Someone is using a portable telephone or other
equipment that emits radio waves near the unit,
-> Move the portable telephone, etc., away from the
unit.

CD player

The CD does not play or"N0 DISC" is displayed

even when a CD is in place.

0 Place the CD with the label surface up.

0 Clean the CD.

0 Take out the CD and leave the CD compartment open
for about an hour to dry moisture condensation.

0 The CD~R/CD-RW is blank

0 There is a problem with the quality of the CD-R/
CD-RW, recording device or application software.

0 Replace all the batteries with new ones if they are weak.

The sound drops out.

0 Reduce the volume.

0 Clean the CD, or replace it if the CD is badly damaged.

. Place the unit in a location free from vibration,

0 Clean the lens with a commercially available blower.

I The sound may drop out or noise may be heard when
using poor quality CD~R/CD»RW or if there is a
problem with the recording device or application
software.

PM or AM radio

Reception is poor.
0 Reorient the antenna to improve FM reception.

Noise is heard.

I The SIRIUS Connect Home tuner is connected to a wall
outlet through the AC power adaptor.
-> Disconnect the AC power adaptor,

The audio is weak or has poor quality.
0 Replace all the batteries with new ones if they are weak.
I Move the unit away from the TV.

I If you are using the remote while listening to AM radio,
noise may be heard.

The picture of yourTV becomes unstable.
0 If you are listening to an FM program near the TV with
an indoor antenna, move the unit away from the TV.

Satellite radio (XM or SIRIUS)

The unit cannot receive satellite channels at all.

I Check that the XM Mini-Tuner and Home Dock or the
SiriusConnect Home tuner are connected properly

a The receiving condition is not good. Move the antenna
to the place where the condition is good.

0 Check that you subscribed to the desired satellite radio
service (see Before using the unit).

Remote

The remote does not function.

I Replace all the batteries in the remote with new ones if
they are weak

I Make sure that you are pointing the remote at the
remote sensor on the unit.

I Remove any obstacles in the path of the remote and the
unit.

I Make sure the remote sensor is not exposed to strong
light such as direct sunlight or fluorescent lamp light.

I Move closer to the unit when using the remote.

To reset the unit to factory settings

Ifthe unit still does not operate properly, reset the unit to
factory settings

Use buttons on the unit to reset the unit to its factory
default settings.

1 Remove all the batteries from the unit.

2 Disconnect and reconnect the power cord, and then
turn on the unit

and POWER on the unit at

the same time.
All user»configured settings, such as preset radio

stations and SIRIUS Parental Lock password, are
deleted.

After trying the remedies, if the problem persists, please
consult your nearest Sony dealer.

Messages

XM

ANTENNA: The XM Mini-Tuner and Home Dock is
not connected, Check the connection of the antenna
cord, and then turn the system on again.

CH - - - : You have entered an invalid channel number.
The channel to be tuned-in is void due to the change
by the broadcast service, or the receiving condition
is not good.

LOADING : The system have not finished receiving the
entire audio data or text information. Some buttons
are not available.

NO SIGNAL : The receiving condition is not good. Try
moving the antenna to another location, Make sure
the antenna points south. For details about the
antenna location, see the instructions supplied with
the XM Mini-Tuner and Home Dock.

OFF AIR : The channel is not broadcasted now.

UPDATING : You have not subscribed for XM or the
channel is not authorized. You need to subscribe for
XM.

- - - - : There is no text information or time information
in the channel. This is not an error. The text
information may not be displayed depending on the
system condition, for example, right after the system
has received a channel.

SIRIUS

ANTENNA 2 The antenna is not connected properly.
Check the connection between the SiriusConnect
Home tuner and the antenna.

LINKING : The receiving condition is not good. Try
moving the antenna to another location. For details
about the antenna location, see the instructions
supplied with the SiriusConnect Home tuner.

CALL 888-539-SIRI : You have not subscribed for the
selected channel.

CHECK SIRIUS : The SiriusConnect Home tuner is not
connected properly. Check all the connections, and
then turn the system on again.

INVALID : You have entered an invalid channel number.
The channel to be tunedvin is void due to the change
by the broadcast service, or the receiving condition
is not good.

SUB UPDT: You have not subscribed for SIRIUS or the
channel is not authorized. You need to subscribe for
SIRIUSr

UPDATING : Channel information or SiriusConnect
Home tuner firmware is being updated.

- - - - : There is no text information or time information
in the channel. This is not an error. The text
information may not be displayed depending on the
system condition, for example, right after the system
has received a channel.
