Settl ng Up the Remote Commander
About Presett' g the Commander

The Commander is preset at the factory to operate Sony brand
components.

If youre using the Commander with a Sony component, you wont
need to preset the Commander before you start using it.

To set up the Commander to use with other (non-Sony)
manufacturers components, or to use with a component that is not
preset at the factory, youll need to follow the instructions in this
manual to preset the Commander with the correct code number for
your components. (See the supplied "Component code numbers
also.)

Notes

I The Commander can be set up to operate only one component per
button - unless their code numbers happen to be the same. For
example, you cannot set up the Commander to operate a Sony TV
and a Panasonic TV simultaneously (because they use different
code numbers).

I You may not be able to operate even a Sony brand component with
the factory presetting. In such a case, follow the procedure in
"Setting the Code.

Installing the Batteries
Before replacing the batteries, have new ones ready beforehand.

Slide open the battery compartment and insert two size AA (R6)
batteries (not supplied).

Be sure to line up the + and - on the batteries with the + and - on the
battery compartment.

When to replace the batteries

Under normal conditions, batteries will last up to six months. If the
Commander does not operate properly, the batteries might be worn
out. Replace the batteries with new ones.

Notes

I Replace both batteries with new ones.

I Do not take more than 20 minutes to replace the batteries;
otherwise, your setting of the code numbers will be erased.

Notes on Batteries

I Do not mix old batteries with new ones or mix different types of
batteries together.

I If the electrolyte inside the battery should leak, wipe the
contaminated area of the battery compartment with a cloth and
replace the old batteries with new ones. To prevent the electrolyte
from leaking, remove the batteries when you plan not to use the
Commander for a long period of time.

Setting the Code

Follow the steps 1 and 2 below for each component you plan to use
with the Commander.

Step 1: Entering the Code Number

1 See the supplied Component code numbers, and find the three-
digit code number for the desired component.
If more than one code number is listed, use the number that's
listed first to complete the steps below.
For example, if youre setting up a Philips VCR, you would use
the code number 035.
If your component isnt listed, see Searching for the Correct

Code.
2 While pressing the SET button, press the +

POWE R button.

4 Enter the components code number. @
For example, if you're entering the code
for a Philips VCR, you would press
@ @®.

5 Press and release the ENT button to store
the code number in the Commanders @
memory.

6 Go to "Step 2: Checking if the Code Number Works to finish
setting up.

Your Code Number

Step 2: Checking if the Code Number Works

1 Power on the component you want to set up.

2 Aim the Remote Commander at the component and press a button
to check if that button works.
For example, press the POWER button to see if it works on your
component .

3 Check that the other buttons of the Commander is operating the
corresponding functions of the component.

You can write down the code number on the label inside the
battery compartment lid.

If the Commander Doesn't Seem to Be Working...

I First, try repeating these setup procedures using the other codes
listed for your component (see the supplied "Component code
numbers).

I It - after trying all the codes listed for your component ~ you still
cannot get the Commander to work properly, try the search
method described in Searching for the Correct Code.

Searching for the Correct Code

If youve tried all the code numbers listed for your component and
you still cannot get the Commander to work (or if your component is
not listed in the Component code numbers tables), try these steps.

1 Power on the component you want to set up. Insert a tape or disc
if necessary.

2 While pressing the SET button, press the POWER button.

3 Press the button of the component on the Commander that you
want to set up.

4 Press and release the CH+ button. Then press and release the
POWER button.

5 Repeat step 4 until the correct code number is found.
Each time you press the CH+ button and then the POWER button,
a new code number will be transmitted.
Keep trying until your component operates by receiving the
transmitted signal from the Commander (e.g., the power turns off,
the CH+ function works, playback starts, etc.). Be patient as you
do this; it may take about 100 tries until the correct code number is
located.

6 When the correct code is found, press the ENT button to store the
code number in the Commanders memory.

7 Check that the Commander is operating the other functions of
your component by pressing the corresponding buttons on the
Commander. If they seem to be working properly, youre done
setting up the Commander.

If the component does not operate properly, repeat steps 1 to 6 and
search for another code.

If you still cannot get the Commander to work properly, see
"Troubleshooting.

3 Press the button of the component that
you want to set up.

Note

On the VCR, CBL, SAT, AMP, CD, and DVD buttons, video cassette
recorder, analog cable box, "digital satellite receiver, "receiver,
CD player, and DVD player are assigned respectively at the
factory. But you can also assign other components on these buttons.
For details, see Changing the Component Type on the VCR, CBL,
SAT, AMP, CD, and DVD buttons.

Changing the Component Type on the VCR,
CBL, SAT, AMP, CD and DVD buttons

At the factory, video cassette recorder is assigned on the VCR
button, digital satellite receiver on the SAT button, analog cable
box on the CBL button, "receiver on the AMP button, CD player
on the CD button and "DVD player on the DVD button. By
completing the following procedure, you can change this setting so
that you can set up any component on these buttons.

1 While pressing the SET button, press the POWER button.
2 Press the VCR, CBL, SAT, AMP, CD, or DVD button.
3 Press and release the I (stop) button.

4 Press and release one of the following buttons;
to assign a VCR

@ to assign a DAV (DVD/ receiver combo)
to assign a digital satellite receiver, a digital cable box or a
digital video recorder

@ to assign a receiver

6) to assign a CD player

(E) to assign a tape deck

to assign an MD deck

to assign a TV

Q) to assign an analog cable box

(I) to assign a DVD

5 Press and release the ENT button.

6 Enter the components code number by following steps 2 to 6 of
Entering the Code Number, or steps 1 to 7 of "Searching for the
Correct Code."

Controlling the Volume of Video
Components Connected to an Audio
System

The Commander is factory preset based on the assumption that you
hear the sound of your video components from your TVs speakers,
and that you hear the sound of your audio components from the
loudspeakers connected to your receiver (or amplifier).

Factory Setting:

Button Controls the volume of

* If you assign an audio component on the VCR. CBL SAT. CD or DVD button,
you can control the volume of the receiver (or amplifier) on the AMP button.
If you assign video components on these buttons, you can control the volume
of the TV.

Thus you can control the volume of your TV or receiver (or
amplifier) while operating a video or audio component without first
having to press the TV or AMP button. For example, to control the
volume for your VCR channels, you dont need to press the TV
button first.

However, if your Video components are connected to an audio
system, you probably hear your TVs or VCRs sound from the
loudspeakers connected to your receiver (or amplifier), not from
your TV speakers. In this case, you need to change the factory setting
so that you can control the volume of your video components
without first having to switch to the receiver (or amplifier).

To change the factory setting for the volume control, follow the
procedures below.

Note

This feature is effective only when a receiver (or amplifier) is set up
on the AMP button. You cannot control the volume of a receiver (or
amplifier) set up on VCR, CBL. SAT, CD or DVD button while
operating a component of another button.

Changing the Factory Setting for the
Volume Control

1 While pressing the SET button, press the POWER button.

2 Press the AMP button.

3 Press the VOL+ button.

4 Press the ENT button.

The volume control setting is changed to "receiver/ amplifier. You

can control the volume of the receiver (or amplifier) of the AMP
button while selecting any component.

Notes

I If you are using more than one receiver (or amplifier) and have set
it on the VCR. CBL, SAT. CD or DVD button, when selecting these
buttons you cannot control the volume of the receiver (or
amplifier) of the AMP button.

I If you change the setting of the AMP button to a component other
than a receiver or amplifier, the volume control setting of video
components will return to TV even if you have changed the
factory preset volume control. In this case, you will not be able to
control the Volume from audio components other than a receiver or
amplifier.

To reset to factory preset volume control

In step 3 above, press VOL- instead.

Operating a Component

Notes on Using the Remote Commander

Basically, use this Commander in the same way as the Commanders

supplied with your components.

I Using this Commander will not increase the functions of your
components. The functions of the Commander are limited to the
functions of the components themselves. For example, if your TV
does not have a MUTING function, the MUTING button on this
Commander will not function with your TV.

I Some functions of the component may not work with this
Commander.

I If your cable box can control volume, be sure to set its volume
switch to a medium position. If the volume on the cable box is
turned down completely, you will not be able to adjust your TVs
volume with the Commander.

Setting a channel with a single button
(Channel Macro function)

You can program the Channel Macro function on any of the buttons
listed below (macro keys).

For example, instead of pressing @, @, and then the ENT button
to change the TV channel, you can perform these operations by
pressing only the > button.

The macro keys are:

>, «, », I, II, and .REC.

(During TV, analog cable box, digital cable box, digital satellite
receiver or digital Video recorder operations only.)

The series of operations that can be programmed must be consisted
of two to four sequential pressings of @ to @ buttons or ENT
button.

Note
The Channel Macro function may not work correctly for some
components.

To program a series of operations

1 Press the desired component select button.
(You can select "TV, "analog cable box, digital cable box
"digital satellite receiver or "digital video recorder only.)

2 While pressing the desired macro key, press the buttons required
for the operations in sequence.
For example, to program @ 4t @ a ENT on the > button,
hold down > first, press @, , and EMT in sequence, and then
release >.

Notes

I Even if you try to program more than four operations and press the
corresponding buttons in step 2 above, only the first four buttons
that were pressed will be programmed.

I If you try to program only one operation on a macro key, the
setting operation will be rejected.

I You can program the Channel Macro function for up to three
components only. To program for the fourth component, first clear
all macro keys for a component.

To change or clear the program

When you want to change the setting or if you are no longer using
that programmed operation, follow the procedure below to
overwrite or clear the program.

1 Hold down the macro key that you want to change or clear.

2 After waiting for about three seconds, press the new sequence of
buttons, or, to clear the program, press and release @, and then
press and release ENT.

3 Release the macro key.

Note

Be sure to wait for about three seconds in step 2 above. While you
are holding down the macro key and waiting, the programmed
signals are transmitted; therefore, if you are aiming the Commander
at your component, the programmed operations may be performed
before you go on with the procedure.

Troubleshoot ng

If you have problems setting up or using the Commander:

. When setting up the Commander, carefully go through the procedures
described in Setting the Code. If the code thats listed first for your
component doesnt work, try all the codes for your component . in the order
in which theyre listed. If all the codes fail to work (or if your component is
not listed in this manual), try using the procedures in Searching for the
Correct Code.

- Check that youre aiming the Commander directly at the component, and that
there are no obstructions between the Commander and the component.

- Make sure the batteries youre using are not worn out, and that theyre
inserted correctly.

. Check that the button of the TV, VCR, CBL, SAT, AMP, CD or DVD is pressed
to choose your desired component

- Check that the component has infrared remote capability For example, if
your component didnt come with a remote commander, it probably isnt
capable of being controlled by a remote commander.

. If your video components are connected to an audio system, make sure
youve set up the Commander as described in Controlling the Volume of
Video Components Connected to an Audio System.

. Should any problem persist, reset the Commander to the factory setting by
pressing the POWER, TV/VIDEO and VOL- buttons simultaneously.

Sabre el preajuste del telemando

El telemando ha sido preajustado en fabrica para gobsmar
componentes de marca Sony.

Si Va a utilizar el telemando con componentes Sony, no necesitara
preajustarlo antes de comenzar a utilizarlo.

Colocacian de Ias pilas
Antes de reemplazar las pilas, tenga Unas nuevas preparadas.

Cuando reemplazar Ias pilas

En condiciones normales, las pilas duraran hasta seis msses. Si el
telemando no funciona adecuadamente, es posible que las pilas estén
agotadas. Reemplace las pilas por otras nuevas.

I Reemplace ambas pilas por otras nuevas.

I No tarde mas de 20 minutos en reemplazar las pilas, porque de lo
contrario su ajuste ds nUmeros de codigo se borrara.

Natas sabre Ias pilas

I No mezcls una pila nueva con otra Vieja, ni dos ds tipos diferentes.

I Si se tuga el electrolito ds las pilas, Iimpie la parts contaminada del
compartimiento de las pilas con Un pafio y reemplace las pilas
Viejas por otras nUeVas. Para eVitar la tuga del elect-rolito, extraiga
Ias pilas cuando no Vaya a utilizar el telemando durants mucho
tiempo.

Programacién del cadigo

Realice los pasos 1 y 2 siguientes para cada components que planee
utilizar con el telemando.

Pasa 1: Introduccién del nl'lmera de cadiga

1 Consults los "Numeros de codigo de componentes
suministrados, y busque el nUmsro de codigo de tres citras para el
componente deseado.

Si hay mas de UIl numsro de codigo en la lista, ut-ilice el primero
de ellos para completar los pasos siguientes.

Por ejemplo, para Una Videograbadora Philips, utilice el niimero
de codigo 035.

Si su components no esta en la lista, consults BLIsqueda del
codigo correcto.

2 Al tismpo que mantiene presionado el
boton SET, presione el boton POWER.

3 Presione Ia tecla dsl componente qus

rsspectivamente los ajustes de fabrica "Videograbadora",
decoditicador analogico, "sintonizador de recepcion Via satelite

reproductor de discos DVD. Asimismo, es posible asignar otros
componentes a estos botones. Para obtener mas intormacion,
consults "Cambio del tipo de components de los botones VCR, CBL,
SAT, AMP, CD y DVD.

4 lntroduzca el nUmero ds codigo del
componente. Por ejemplo, para introducir @ ® @
sl codigo para Una Videograbadora Philips, Su nflmero de codigo

5 Presione la tecla ENT para almacenar el
nlImero ds codigo en la memoria del @
telemando.

6 Para tinalizar la programacion, vaya al Paso 2: Comprobacion
del funcionamiento ds un nLimsro de codigo.

Paso 2: Camprabacién del funcianamienta de un
nilmero de codigo

1 Conscte Ia alimentacion del components qus desee ajustar.

2 ApUnte con el telemando hacia el componente y presione una
tecla para comprobar si trabaja.
Por ejemplo, presione la tecla POWER para ver si trabaja sn Su
componrente.

3 Compruebe si Ias otras teclas del telemando controlan Ias
tunciones correspondientes del componente.

Usted podra escribir sl numero de codigo en la etiqueta del

interior de la tapa del compartimiento de la bateria.

Si el telemando parece que no trabaja...

I En primer lugar, repita estos procedimientos de programacion
utilizando los otros codigos de la lista para su components
(consults las tablas de "NUmeros de codigo de componentes).

I Si, después de haber probado todos los codigos de la lista para su
componente, el telemando sigue sin trabajar adecuadamente,
consults "BUSqueda del codigo correcto.

Basqueda del cadiga carrecto

Si ha intentado todos lo nUmsros de codigo de la lista para su
componente y el telemando sigue sin trabajar (o si sus componentes
no estan iridicados en las tablas de NUmsros de codigo de
componentes), pruebe estos puntos.

1 Conecte la alimentacion del components que desee ajustar. Si es
necesario, inserts U.n cassette 0 un disco.

2 Al tiempo que mantisne presionado el boton SET, presione el
boton POWER.

3 Presione la tecla del components que desee ajustar.

4 Presione y suelte la tecla CH+. Después presione y suelte la tecla
POWER.

5 Repita el paso 4 hasta que encUentre el numero de codigo correcto,
Cada Vez que presione la tecla CH+ y después la tecla POWER, se
transmitira UII nuevo nUmero de codigo.

Continue intentandolo hasta que su components tuncione al
recibir la sefial transmitida dssde el telemando (p. ej., ss
desconecta la alimentacion, la tuncion de CH+ trabaja, se inicia la
reproduccion, etc.). Tsnga paciencia cuando realice ssto, porque es
posible qus tenga que realizar 100 intentos hasta encontrar sl
nLimero ds codigo correcto,

6 Cuando encuentre el codigo correcto, presione la tecla ENT para
almacenar el nUmero de codigo en la memoria del telemando.

7 Compruebe si el telemando controla las otras tunciones de su
components presionando las teclas correspondientes de dicho
telemando. Si parece trabajar correctamente, habra firializado el
preajuste del telemando.

Si el components no funciona corrsctamente, repita los pasos 1 a 6 y
busque otro codigo.

Si el telemando sigus sin trabajar adecuadamente, consults "Solucion
de problemas.

Cambio del tipo de componente de los
botanes VCR, CBL, SAT, AMP, CD y DVD

De fabrica, "Vidsograbadora" Se asigna al boton VCR, sintonizador
de recepcion via satelits digital al boton SAT, "decodificador
analogico" al boton CBL, receptor al boton AMP, "reproductor de
discos compactos al boton CD y "reproductor de discos DVD al
boton DVD. Al realizar el procedirnisnto siguiente, es posible
cambiar este ajuste de forma que pueda ajustar cualquisr
componente con sstos botones.

1 Al tiempo que mant-iene presionado sl boton SET, presione el
boton POWER.

2 Presione la tecla VCR, CBL, SAT, AMP, CD, o DVD.

3 Presione y suelte la tecla I (parada).

de video conectados a un sistema de
audio

El mando a distancia ha sido programado en fabrica suponiendo qus
Usted Va a escuchar el sonido ds sus componentes de Video a través
de los altavoces de su televisor, y el sonido de sus componentes de
audio a través de los altavoces conectados. a su receptor (0
amplificador).

Ajuste de fabrica:

* Si ha asignado componentes de audio a la tecla VCR, CBL, SAT, CD o DVD,
podra controlar e1 volumen del receptor (o del amplilicador) con la tecla
AMP. Si ha asignado componentes de video a estas teclas, podra controlar el
volumen del televisor.

De esta forma, usted podra controlar el volumen de su televisor 0
receptor (o amplificador) mientras utilics Uri components de Video 0
ds audio sin tener que presionar primero la tecla TV 0 AMP. Por
ejemplo, para controlar el Volumsn ds los canales ds su
videograbadora, no necesitara presionar en primer lugar la tecla TV.
Sin embargo, si sus componentes de Video estan conectados a un
sistema de audio, probablemente sscuchara el sonido de su televisor
o de su vidsograbadora a través de los altavoces conectados a su
receptor (0 amplificador), no a través de los altavoces de su televisor.
En este caso, tendra qus cambiar el ajuste ds fabrica a fin de poder
controlar el volumen ds sus componentes de Video sin tener que
cambiar primero al receptor (0 amplificador).

Para cambiar el ajuste de tabrica para controlar el volumen, realice
los procsdimientos siguientes.

Esta tuncion solamsnts trabajara cuando haya programado un
receptor (o amplificador) en la tecla AMP. Usted no podra controlar
el volumen de un receptor (o ampliticador) programado en la tecla
VCR, CBL, SAT, CD ni DVD mient-ras ut-ilice otro components en otra
tecla distinta.

Cambio del ajuste de fabrica para el control
de volumen

1 Al t-ismpo que mantisne presionado el boton SET, presione el
boton POWER.

2 Presione sl boton AMP.
3 Presione la tecla VOL+.
4 Presione la tscla ENT.

El ajuste del control de volumen cambiara a receptor/
amplificador. Usted podra controlar el volumen del receptor (0
amplificador) de la tecla AMP aunque haya seleccionado cualquier
otro componente.

I Si esta utilizando mas ds un receptor (0 amplificador) y lo ha
programado en la tecla VCR, CBL, SAT, CD o DVD, cuando
seleccione estas teclas, no podra controlar el volumen del receptor
(o ampliticador) de la tecla AMP.

I Si cambia el ajuste de la tecla AMP a Uri components que no sea Uri
receptor 0 amplificador, el ajuste del control de volumen de los
componentes de Video VolVera a TV incluso aunque haya
cambiado el control de volumen ajustado sn fabrica. En este caso,
no podra controlar el volumen desde componentes de audio que
no sean un receptor 0 Uri amplificador.

En el paso 3 anterior, presione en su lugar VOL-.

I La utilizacion de este telemando no aumentara las funciones de sus
componentes. Las funciones del telemando estaran limitadas a las
de los propios componentes. Por ejemplo, si su televisor no posse
tuncion de silenciamiento (MUTING), la tecla MUTING de este
telemando no trabajara con su televisor.

I Algunas tunciones del components pueden no trabajar con este
telemando.

I Si su adaptador para cablevision pusde controlar el volumen,
cerciorese de ajustar su selector de volumen a Una posicion
intermedia. Si redujese completamente el volumen del adaptador
para cablevision, no podria ajustar el volumen de su tslsvisor con

tecla (Funcion de macro de canal)

Usted podra programar la tuncion de macro de canal en Una de las
teclas indicadas a continuacion (teclas de macro).

Por ejemplo, en Vez de presionar las teclas G) U @ y después
presionar la tecla ENT para cambiar sl canal de television, podra
realizar estas funciones presionando solamente la tecla > .

Las teclas de macro son:

Cuando desee cambiar un ajuste, o si ya no desea utilizar Una

rescribir o borrar el programa.

1 Mantenga presionada la tecla de macro cuyos datos desee cambiar
o borrar.

2 Despues de esperar Unos tres segundos. presione la nueva

3 Suelts la tecla de macro.

- Cuando programe e1 telemando, siga criidadosamente Ios procedimientos
desciitos en "Programacion del codigo." Si el primer codigo de la Iista para
sn componente no trabaja, pruebe los demas de la Iista para dicho
componente, en el orden de la Iista Si no traba]a ningrino de los codigos (o si
sn componente no esta en la Iista de este manual), pruebe los procedimientos
de "Busqueda del codjgo correcto.

. Compruebe si esta apuntando directamente Iracia el componente, y one no

esten insertadas corrsctamente.
