DELUXE 2-SPEED AUTOMANUAL TURNTABLE The SIR-40500
is ' standard-bearer for a whole new generation of quality turntables--
the cansui Automanuals. Designed and built by perfectionists for per-
fectionists, this precision instrument now brings you the best of both
turntable worlds, the uncomplicated accuracy of the manual and the
convenience of the automatic. Perhaps the outstanding feature of the
Sit-40500 is its unique Auto Lift/Stop mechanism. The all-electrical
Auto Lift element includes a special detector circuit and relay/solenoid
control system. Among its many advantages are the elimination of
possible damage resulting from undesirable side pressure. plus the fact
that cartridges of very light tracking force can be used. The Auto Stop
element automatically stops platter motion when a record has finished

playing and the tonearm raises itself. Incorporating a direct belt-drive
system. 4-pole synchronous motor. Sansui's original belt protection
system and feather-touch cuing control. the Sit-40500 carries the tender
loving care of records to gentle new lengths. No expense has been spared
to make it the finest of the new Automanual generation. its statically.
balanced tubular tonearm. for example. features a unique and costly
gimbals-support design. Gold-plated connection terminal pins are used,
and an expensive heao shell is provided. along with a newly designed
induced magnet cartridge. Built by perfectionists for perfectionists, the
new SR-4OSOC is a performer without peer among today's quality turn-

UNIQUE AUTO LIFT/STOP: The SR~4050C
features Sansui's new unique Auto Lift/Stop
mechanism. absolutely free of any devices that
may deteriorate the performance of the tone-
arm. A "position type automatic lifting me-
chanism. which, produces absolutely no side
pressure. it performs its task electrically with
foolproof certainty and permits any cartridge of
light tracking force to be used. Employing a
magnet reed switch and a plunger such as are
used in a quality tape'transport mechanism.
the Auto Lift/Stop mechanism gently lifts the
tonearm when a record is finished. and then
stops the platter motion. Basic motions are
exactly the same as in professional manual
turntables. ' .

DIRECT BELT-"DRIVE SYSTEM: A belt-drive
system assures smooth. stable revolution of
the platter for hours on end. A simple 'direct'
belt-drive system. it keeps friction and rotation-
al parts to a minimum. and is far less apt to
break down than the more complex double-belt-
drive system. thereby maintaining its superior
initial performance for a long time. Its precision-
finished 12-inch aluminum alloy die-cast platter
is of a double-rim design for greater flywheel
effect. and its center spindle adopts a special
design that minimizes wow.

FOUR-POLE SYNCHRONOUS MOTOR: The
SR-405OC is equipped with a quality 4-pole
synchronous motor that maintains constant
speeds against fluctuations in line voltage or
load. No fine adjustments of speeds are ever
necessary. Special attention was also given to
the position and method of mounting the motor
to obtain an exceptional signal-to-noise ratio.
AUTOMATIC BELT PROTECTION SYSTEM:
First devised and adopted by Sansui,this system
eliminates the possibility of deformation to the
drive belt by automatically interlocking the
speed changeover mechanism when the Power
Switch is turned off.

PUSHBUTTON SPEED CONTROLS: Choose
either 3313 or 45 rpm simply by pushing the
appropriate light pushbutton speed control.
Designed from the standpoint of human en-
gineering. both controls permit the selection of
the right speed with certainty even in the dark-
ness.

FEATHER-TOUCH CUING CONTROL: The SR-
40500 boasts a feather-touch cuing control that
doubles as a power switch. Lift it upright. and
the turntable quietly starts to rotate. pull it
further toward yourself, and the oiLdamped
delay-motion arm elevation mechanism gently
lowers the tonearm on the record. (This me-
chanism utilizes both spring and oil to overcome
the weaknesses of conventional arm elevation
mechanisms. lt resists sharp temperature
changes and prevents oil seepage even if

handled carelessly.) With the turntable set for
Automatic Lift/Stop operation, the cuing control
automatically returns to OFF as the tonearm
lifts off the record.

ALUMINUM SCRATCH MOTOR BOARD: The
beauty of the die-cast platter and the graceful
shape of the tonearm are enhanced by the
adoption of Sansui's unique. black aluminum
scratch motor board. Relatively free from the
accumulation of dust. it adds to the decor of
any tastefully furnished room.

GIMBALS-SUPPORTED TUBULAR TONEARM:
The statically balanced tubular tonearm of the
Sit-40500 features an expensive gimbals-
support design for exceptional sensitivity in both
horizontal and vertical directions. This unique
support method permits the tonearm to track
the record groove faithfully with very light
tracking force and also minimizes the frictional
resistance and inertia efficiency of the rotary
parts. Precision-finished, the tonearm is also

designed to preclude any possibility of re.
sonance or howling. The result of all these
special design considerations, of course. is
evident in the superior tonal quality of re-
produced sound.

ANTI-SKATING DEVICE: The bias force of the
anti-skating device adopted by the SR-4050C
can be internally adjusted in a continuous
manner. This can be done even while a record
is playing. so the operator can actually detect
the difference in the tonal quality of reproduced
sound as he adjusts the bias force to cancel the
inside force.

DIRECT READOUT TRACKING FORCE
WEIGHT: Once the tonearm is balanced. the
required tracking force (stylus pressure) can be
readily applied by turning and moving the direct
readout rotary weight-in 0.5 gram steps-to
the appropriate marking. This makes possible
the application of the necessary tracking force
with absolute precision.

ZINC DIE-CAST CONTROL BASE: This die-cast
base avoids resonance. yet firmly supports the
tonearm and oil-damped arm elevation me-
chanism. Reinforced with special ribs. it offers
extraordinary strength. and completely elimi-
nates the possibility of warping or breaking.
GOLD-PLATED CONNECTION TERMINAL
PINS: Expensive gold-plated pins are employed
on the connection terminals of both the tone-
arm and the head shell. Overcoming one of the
weaknesses of past turntables. the newm'
nection terminals no longer get rusty We in
warm areas or areas along ocean costs.
EXPENSIVE HEAD SHELL PROVIDED: The
SR-4OSOC is complete with an expensive head
shell made of a special light alloy. Large holes
are punched in its top surface to make ' 5
light (8 grams) as possible; its edge is spe 3y
bent to serve as a reinforcement rib for added
strength and the part that couples to the cart-
ridge is doubly constructed to avoid resonance.
Its gold-plated terminals are fashioned as a
plug meeting EIA standards, and can be coupled
to tonearms of other makes.

INDUCED MAGNET CARTRIDGE: The newly
designed induced magnet cartridge features
superior tone quality and lack of distortion in
reproduced sound. The mass of its moving part
has been reduced to a minimum. thanks to the
use of an exceptionally light cantilever. Adopt-
ing a high compliance design. it reproduces
treble notes extending above the limit of human
hearing with transparency. midrange notes with
richness, and bass notes with assuring power.
ANTI-HOWLING INSULATORS: Special rubber
cushion insulators attached to the four corners
of the bottom of the cabinet prevent howling-
one big obstacle to faithful tracking of the re-
cord. They guard against this unpleasant (\zt
even when the unit is operated in a place with
abundant acoustic vibrations.

GRACEFUL CABINET: The cabinet of the SR-
40506 adopts a sophisticated design combining
natural wood and special resin. and is com-
pletely free from howling. A
REMOVABLE SMOKED DUST COVER: oe
unit comes complete with a smoked acryl dust
cover that can be opened or closed single
handedly. For safety. it renders itself removable
only when opened to a certain angle.
