MAINTENANCE

Changing Capstans

This turntables power source frequency has been
properly adjusted to your area by Sansui prior to
shipment. If you should move to a country or an
area where electrical cycles change from 50 to 60 or
vice versa, an adjustment in the turntables speed
is necessary. This is easily accomplished by chang-
ing the capstan. An accessory capstan is provided.

1. Remove the belt from the capstan and take off
the platter. Loosen the capstans setscrew with a
small screwdriver and slowly pull the capstan out.

2. Insert the new capstan on the motor shaft and
tighten the setscrew firmly. The capstn must be
adjusted so that the belt is always in the center of
the belt guide and the belt still moves easily on the

capstan when the Speed Change-Over buttons are
pressed.

NOTE: The Speed Change-Over buttons cannot be activated unless
the Control Lever is in the ON and PLAY position.

3. Mount the platter again and recover with rub-
ber mat.

Oiling
Although the need for oiling depends on usage,

oiling should be performed once a year (every 1000
hours)

1. Oiling the Motor

Remove the platter and apply a few drops of oil
into the lubrication hole as indicated in the photo-
graph. Be careful that the oil does not stain the
belt or the capstan. In case of staining, it is neces-
sary to immediately clean ' ' " ' " '
the parts thoroughly with

benzine or carbon tetra-

chloride.

}

2. Oiling the Turntable Spindle

Remove the bottom board from the cabinet, loosen
a setscrew (photo 1) in the bearing section of the
turntable spindle behind the mounting board, pull

the spindle up, and apply one or two drops of the
supplied oil onto it (photo 2).

Adjusting the Stylus Pressure

1. Remove the stylus guard from the cartridge and
set the Control Lever to PLAY.

2. Remove the arm from its rest and the move the
main weight back and forth until the arm balances.
Then move the stylus pressure scale only so that
the 0 mark on it coincides with the marker on the
weight shaft.

3. By turning the main weight counterclockwise
(as viewed from the front), position it so that the
number (specified stylus pressure of the cartridge
used) on the stylus pressure scale coincides with the
marker on the weight shaft. For use with the

cartridge accompanying the SR-ZOSOC, the number
is equal to 2.

When abnormal howling is heard during play, it is
often because the turntable has been placed too close
to the speaker boxes and the cartridge picks up
speaker vibrations, To insure the best performance,
never place the turntable directly on a speaker box.
