3-WAY 5-SPEAKER MULTl-DIRECTION SPEAKER SYSTEM:
Speaker design, performance and quality take a giant step forward with
the introduction of this Multi-Direction or MD speaker system from
Sansui. For the first time ever, it is possible to re-create the complex
interference of sound waves normally present in an original sound field
in your living room. Sansui engineers have brought this about by mount-
ing midranges and tweeters at various angles to the front of the cabinet.
The combined effect of this speaker placement, together with the curved
design of the enclosure, is to create a virtual whirlpool of sound inside

the listening room. But this is only one of many innovations you'll fine
in the SP-1200. The 10-inch woofer of the system adopts a new mechani-
cal high-cut design which permits it to be fed directly from the amplifier,
by-passing such damping-deteriorating elements as coils and capacitors.
The crossover network is also new, adopting an E-type ferrite core and
printed circuit board design. The latest onetouch pushbutton connec-
tion terminals, large 60 watt handling capacity and Sansui's famed
Kumiko fretwork grille combine to make the SP-1200 the most advanced
speaker system in its power and price range on the world market.

TEM The SP-1200 utilizes amechanicalhigh-
cut type 10-inch high-compliance woofer_ for
the lows.and a pair of4-inch cone speakers with
aluminum dome radiators for'the all import-
ant midranges in Sansui's unique Multi-direc-
tion system. For the highs. a pair of 2-inch cone
speakers are employed. and thanks to the use
of a specially designed voice coil and other new
developments. the system is able to accept up
to 60 watts in input without distortion.
.Tl-DIRECTION SYSTEM

by employing a new speaker mounting method,
Sansui's unique Multi-direction or MD system
is able to reproduce within the listening room
the same exciting liveliness or sense of 'pres-
ence experienced in a concert hall or wherever
the original live performance was conducted.The
development puts Sansui in the forefront of
the industry-wide trend away from the simple
reproduction of sound source points and toward
the reproduction of an entire sound field. Bas-
ically, the new mounting method increases the
interaction of sound waves by having them
criss~cross as they emerge from the individual
speakers. The resultant sound field effect is
simply not obtainable though a mere widening
of sound dispersion. In the SP-1200 MD sys-
tem, the pairs of midranges and tweeters are
mounted at an interior angle to the front. pro-
ducing an interference fringe-a whirlpool of
sound-inside the listening room. The result is
greater fidelity than was ever possible with con-
ventional speaker systems.

NEWLY DEVELOPED WOOFER

The SP-1200's newly developed woofer is of
unique mechanical high-cut filter design to
abruptly attenuate the high end of the speakers
frequency response. As a result the output
signal of the amplifier is fed directly into the
woofer. byvpassing such adverse damping ele-
ments as coils and capacitors. Which means a

very smooth frequency response even at very
low frequencies. for the reproduction of ex-
tremely well-damped rich bass sound. In addi-
tion to the new design, the woofer offers a big
10-inch cone speaker which reproduces very
low frequencies below 40Hz with excellent fre-
quency response, intermodulation distortion

and dispersion characteristics. Equipped with
a powerful magnetic circuit for steady piston
action with superior transient response. it also
features a copper wire voice coil and a brass
coil bobbin which enable it to provide excellent
heat diffusion and strength and thus to with-
stand a big 60 watts in maximum power input.

4-lNCH CONE MIDRANGES

Each of these special angle-mounted speakers
has a new concave aluminum dome radiator
mounted directly on the voice coil bobbin.
This permits a very smooth, natural transi-
tion to the tweeters with virtually no phase
agitation around the crossover. The unique
concave design of the dome radiator helps
improve sound diffusion as well. Specially
designed to permit effective diffusion of radi-
ated heat, each speaker is able to withstand a
big power input. In addition. special acoustical
measures have been taken to prevent woofer
interference. with the result that frequency
response near the woofer crossover is very
smooth, affording a natural transition to the
bass sound.

2-INCH CONE TWEETERS

A pair of vertically arranged 2-inch cone twee-
ters handlefrequencies over 6,500Hz.The upper
one is tilted downward 3 degrees and the lower
upward by 3 degrees. This means improved
sound dispersion and reinforced sound field
effect. Each tweeter includes a very light vi-
brating system and reproduces treble notes of
very clear, refreshing timbre that connect
naturally with the midranges.

NEWLY DESIGNED CROSSOVER NETWORK
The newly designed high-performance LC type
network of the SP-1200 utilizes an ideal E»type
ferrite core and is designed as a printed circuit
board for greater reliability. In addition, it is
equipped with unique 3-step (SOFT, NATURAL
and CLEAR) tap-down' level controls for the
midranges and tweeters. They permit selecting
the tonal quality best suited to the acoustic
environment and to the listener's personal
taste.

SPECIAL CHIPBOARD ENCLOSURE

The SP-1200 enclosure adopts a bass reflex
design, making use of two pipe ducts and com.
bining the advantages of both the air suspension
and bass reflex designs. It completely avoids
any unnatural increase in sound pressure at
low frequencies. as well as any unpleasant
cabinet resonance. and offers a flat frequency
characteristic and a very low distortion factor.
Of solid chipboard and covered with open-pore.
finished natural walnut. the cabinet is able to
reproduce the heavy rich bass of a pipe organ
or any other instrument.

CURVED 'KUMIKO' FRETWORK GRILLE

The SP-1200 is graced with a beautiful
'Kumiko' fretwork grille like other Sansui speak-
er systems. The difference. however, is that it
is curved for a still more elegant appearance
and a superior sound diffusing effect. It adds
immensely to the decor of any room.
PUSHBUTTON CONNECTION TERMINALS
With the SP-1200, connections are made almost
effortless, thanks to the adoption of foolproof
one-touch pushbutton type connection termi-
nals. Just push the terminal button. insert the
and wires in the opening. and release the
button. This system also minimizes the possi-
bility of speaker terminal short circuits.
