SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

make certain live and neutral leads are connected to the
proper terminals, Check that the terminals are screwed
down firmly and no loose strands ol wire are present.
IMPORTANT: The wires in this mains lead are coloured
in accordance with the following code:

BLUE : NEUTRAL

BROWN: LIVE

As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this
apparatus may not correspond with the coloured markings
identifying the terminals in your plug proceed as follows.
The wire which is coloured BLUE must be connected to
the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured
BLUE or BLACK. The wire which is coloured BROWN
must be connected to the terminal which is marked with
the letter L or colour BROWN or RED.

CAUTION:
To prevent electric shock do not use this (polarized)
plug with an extension cord. receptacle or other outlet
unless the blades can be fully inserted to prevent

product.
Rctel audio products are designed to use the latest electronic
technology, and they incorporate our long experience as a

pt. Before starting operation, please read this instruction
manual thoroughly and acquaint yourself with the proper
mode of using the unit and all Its connections.

INSTALLATION

Be sure to place the unit in a level and flat place where it
is free from humidity, vibration, high temperature and not to
place the unit in a highly enclosed place such as near a wall
or on a bookshelf. A poor ventilation will cause undesirable
effects to the unit.

POWER SUPPLY CONNECTION

For power the unit requires the normal house electrical cur~
rent (AC). You may simply plug the unit into a wall outlet, or
into your amplifiers (or receivers) convenience AC outlet.
CAUTION: Do not apply power without first making sure the
proper connections are completed, If you live in U.K. and your
unit comes with 2-core cord without a plug, be sure to read
the exclusive caution for U.K.

ONNECTIDN TO INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER OR
RECEIVER

Using the two accompanying pairs of RCA pin cords, con-
nect INPUT and OUTPUT terminals on the back of deck with
TAPE MONITOR terminals of the amplifier or receiver. Make
sure INPUT terminals are connected to OUT terminals, and
OUTPUT terminals to IN terminals. Be sure to match L (left)
and R (right) terminals of the components, To make correct
connections, use cords with white plugs for left channel con-
nections, and cords with red plugs for right channel
connections.

AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF SYSTEM

When either end of tape is reached in play, record, fast-
forward, or rewind mode, the motor and transpon mechanism
will automatically shut off, disengaging the present mode.
Note, however, that it is still necessary to turn off the entire
unit by pressing the power switch to off.

CASSETTE TAPES

0 To prevent possible trouble with the transport mechanism,
use of large size cassette tapes, such as C-120, is not recom-
mended.

- Handle cassette tapes with care, Keep them away from
heat, circulating dust, or a magnetic field (eg on the TV set),

0 Each cassette tape has safety tabs on its back edge to

prevent accidental re-recording.
The tabs are provided for both sides of cassette tape. You
cannot record on the side whose tab has been removed. The
tab can be removed with a screwdriver, etc, If you wish to
record on the side with no tab, place a piece of adhesive tape,
etc. over the opening where the tab has been, then you can
record.

. A loosened tape may cause trouble in playback or recor-
ding. Check the tape before loading it into the deck. If it is
slack. insert a pencil or the like into either of cassettes hubs,
and rotate it carefully until the slack is taken up.

SWITCH AND CONTROLS

(1) Power Button

This button turns on the unit.Depress this button again
to turn off the power.

The LED Indicator above it will glow when power is ON.

(2) Cassette Door
Cassette tape is loaded into the cassette door cartridge,
Depress the STOP/EJECT button to open the door.

(3) Tape counter and Reset Button

The three-digit tape counter indicates the amount of tape
travel. Push the reset button to set the counter to 000. This
counter is convenient in finding the beginning of specific sec-
tion of the tape or checking the amount of the remaining tape
on the cassette.

(4) Recording Level Sliders

Use to adjust the level of incoming signals from line source
for the left and right channels during recording mode. Nor~
mally set the sliders at the mid-position.

(4) Controle du niveau denregistrement

Pour régler le niveau denregistrement des sign aux den-
tree de la source denregistrement, D'ordinaire, placer ce con-
trols sur la position centre.

(5) lndicateur de créte

Aftiche instatanement le niveau denregistrement ou de lec»
ture (reproduction) pour les deux canaux: Chque rangée de
6 diodes LED indique ditectement desniveau de - on +6dB

(6) Indicateur REC
Sallume lorsque lappareil est en mode denregistrement.

(7) lndlcateurs Dolby NR CIB

L'un de ces indicateures sallumera quand vous appuyez sur
la touche de mise en marche du systeme Dolby NR et selon
que vous ayez appuyé sur la touche du systems Dolby B ou
du systeme Dolby C.

(8) Commandes du mécanisme a cassette

Bouton REG (0)
Pour enregistrer appuyer sur ce bouton-la cassette dolt alors
etre en marche (avant).

Touche de lecture (>)
Presser cette touche afin dactionner la cassette pour la
reproduction dune bande enregistree.

Touche de rebobinage (<4)
Presser cette touche pour le rebobinage rapide de la bande.

Touche davance rapide (>>)
Presser cette touche pour une avance rapide de la bande.

Touche darrét/deiection (I IA)

Presser cette touche pour arréter la bande quel que soit le
mode: enregistrement, reproduction, rebobinage ou avance
rapide et presser cette toUche la deuxieme iois pour ouvrir
la trappe a cassette. Seulement presser cette touche une fois,
puis ouvrir la pone du companiment cassette lors de la bande
en mode darret or compartiment est vide. Fermer la porte,
pousser doucement en arriere.

Touche PAUSE (ll)

Appuyer sur cette touche pour interrompre momentanément
Ie defilement de la bande a l'écoute comme a lenregistre~
ment, Une seconde pression a pour effet de reinstaure le

9 mode précedemment assume.

(9) Touche de Dolby NR Sélecteur de Dolby NR B-C
Presser la touche de Dolby NR pour lenregistrement ou la
restitution avec utilisation du-circuit réducteur de bruit Dolby.
Au-dessus de cette touche se trouve un commutateur de
selection de Dolby type B ou type C. En position haute, le
type B est en circuit; en position basse, Ie type C est en circuit.
Remarque: Le circuit de DOLBY HX PRO est toujours actil
pendant lenregistrement.

(10) Sélecteur de bande

Utilisé pour la selection de polatisation denregistrement et
légallsation de reproduction appropriees, en fonction du type
de cassette utilisée. Utiliser la touche METAL pour les bandes
au for our, la touche SPECIAL pour les bandes au dioxyde
de chrome, et la touche NORMAL pour les bandes normales.

(11) Reglage de tonalité de lecture

Tourner pour corriger les erreurs arrivées pendar{
l'enregistrement ou la lecture qui peut causer Ierreur des

circuits Dolby NFL Dordinaire, placer ce reglage sur la posi-
tion center - (OFF).

Tourner dans Ie sens des aiguilles dune montre (dans la
direction +) sily a de son sourd pendent la lecture, Tourner
dans le sens oppose des aiguilles dune montre (dans la direc~
tion -), il y a de son aigu pendant la lecture.

FONCTIONNEMENT

0 S'assurer que la connexion avec la source dalimenta-
tion et la connexion avec Iampliticateur sont correctement
effectuées.

- Lors dun enregistrement , sassurer que les Ianguettes
de sflreté sur la cassette n'ont pas ete otées,

- Lors dun enregistrement a partir des Iignes de sources,
choisir sur votre amplificateur le programme désiré (tuner,
table de lecture etc.)

Engregistrement

1.Quand on enregistre une bande a laide du circuit Dolby
NFi B ou Dolby NR 0, appuyer sur la touche de Dolby NR,
puis placer le sélecteur Dolby B/C sur la position B ou C.

2. Placer Ie sélecteur de bande (Tape) sur la position ap-
propriee selon le type de bande utilisée.

3. Mettre lappareil sous tension.

4. Enfoner la touche de PAUSE, puis simultanément la
touche de REC (Enregistrement).

5. Regler le niveau d'enregistrement des canaux gauche
et droite a l'aide du controle du niveau denregistrement pour
que les indicateurs de niveau de créte s'allument normale-
ment dans la zone de 0 a + 3 dB.

6. Aprés re'glage du niveau denregistrement effleurer une
deuxieme fois Ia touche de PAUSE pour commencer
lenregistrement.

7. Faire attention a l'indication LED pendant lenregistre-
ment. La touche de PAUSE peut étre enfoncee pour un ar-
rét momentané de la bande pendant lenregistrement.

84 Appuyer sur la touche STOP/EJECT lorsque lenregistre-
ment est terminé. En fin de bande, le mode denregistrement
est automatiquement débrayé et la bande s'arréte.

Lecture (Reproduction)

1. Brancher le systeme Dolby NFI si l'enregistrement a éte
effectue selon ce procédé. Sinon. le mettre hors service.
Placer le sélecteur Dolby BIC sur la position B ou C pour

:outer une bande enregistree a laide du cidrcuit Dolby NR
de type B ou C,

2. Régler le sélecteur de type de bande (TAPE) en fonc~
tion du type de bande utilise.

3. Mettre lampliticateur sous tension, tourner le reglage
de volume pour obtenir le son minimum.

4. Mettre lappareil sons tension.

5. Effleurer Ia touch lecture. La lecture commence alors.
Tourner le réglage de volume pour augmenter Ie volume
sonore.

6. Enforcer la touche de PAUSE pour un arrét momentané
de la bande pendant la lecture. Appuyer sur la touche
STOP/EJECT pour pour arreter la bande. En fin de bande,
le mode de lecture est automatiquement débrayé et la bande
sarrete.

NETTDYAGE

Les difficultés d'enregistrement sur un ou deux canaux, de

meme que la iaiblesse ou les distorsions du son, sont le plus

frequemment provoqués par I'encrassement des tétes et du

cabestan.

Il importe donc de nettoyer les tetes, le cabestan, Ie galet
'entrainement et les guides de bande Ie plus souvent possi-

ole a l'aide d'un conton-tige imbibe dalcool a bruler ou d'un-

produit pour nettoyage de tetes du commerce.

Bien nettoyer la surface des tétes, du cabestan, du galet et

des guides de bande.

DEMAGNETISATION

Avec lusage, les tétes de lecture et denregistrement, le
cabestan et les guides de bande se magnétisent, ce qui est
susceptible daffecter la qualité sonore otterle par les bandes;
La demagnetisatlon doit etre effectuée apres le nettoyage,
sans quil soit necessaire d'y procéder aussi souvent que Ie
nettoyage. Procéder une fois toutes les 20 ou 30 heures
dutilisation.

Un demagnetiseur peut sacheter, pour une somme modi-
que, chez tout fournisseur daccessoires pour magneto-
phones. Suivre les instructions qui accompagnent le
demagnetiseur.

Attnetion: Prendre soin de mettre lappareil hors tension
avant de procéder a la de'magnétisation.
