ZUSATZ ZU BEDIENUNGSANLEITUNG FUER
TONBANDGERAET REVOX B77 DOLBY®

Das Tonbandgerat B77 DOLBV besitzt
einige Bedienungselemente mehr als
die Standard-Version. Die nachfol-
genden Erklarungen beziehen sich
nur auf Bedienungsvorg'ange bei Be-
trieb mit eingeschalteter DOLBY-
Elektronik.

Bitte studieren Sie vor dem Ein-
schalten des Gerates die Bedienungs-
anleitung der Standardausf'uhrung.

SUPPLEMENTARY OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
FOR REVOX B77 DOLBV® TAPE RECORDER

Compared with the standard version,the
model B77 DOLBY tape recorder is equip-
ped with several additional operating
controls. The following instructions
relate strictly to manipulations when
operating the recorder with the DOLBY
electronics switched on.

Before operating the recorder for the
first time,please study carefully the
operating instructions for the stan-
dard version.

DOLBY-Betrieb

F'u'r Aufnahme- und Niedergabebetrieb
mit DOLBY-System Taste DOLBY-NR ®
drucken (Rauschunterdrijckung aktiv).

Die DOLBY-Elektronik unterdru'ckt nur
Rauschanteile,die zwischen der Aufnahme-
und Niedergabeseite entstehen, d.h.
nur das Bandrauschen.Rauschanteile,
die von der Tonquelle kommen,

ko'nnen nicht unterdru'ckt werden.

Es ist desshalb wichtig,dass das Ein-
gangssignal moglichst rauscharm ist
(Gerauschspannungsabstand 65-70dB).

DOLBY Operation

To record or to reproduce with the DOLBY
noise reduction system activated,press
button DOLBY NR Q to lock it in its
down position.

The DOLBY circuits are reducing noise
components which originate between the

record and reproduce electronicsgin other

words, they reduce tape noise only.
Noise originating at the signal source
cannot be reduced or eliminated.

For this reason,it is essential that
the sound signal,which is to be re»
corded,is free from interfering noises
(signal to noise ratio in the order of
65...7UdB).

Function DOLBY

Pour lenregistrement et la lecture
avec le systeme DOLBY,enfoncez la
touche DOLBY NR 9 (réducteur de
bruit de fond actif).

Le systeme DOLBY reduit seulement le
bruit de fond qui prend naissance a
lenregistrement et n'agit donc que
sur le bruit de la bande.Ainsi les
bruits de fond dune source sonore ne
peuvent pas etre élimines.

Il est donc tres important denregis-
trer que des sources sonores de haute
gualité ayant un bruit de fond aussi
faible que possible.(Recul du bruit

de fond 65-70dB)

Das DOLBV-System arbeitet mit einem
dynamischen Filter,dessen Charakteri-
stik vom momentanen Signalpegel ge-
steuert wird.Damit dieses System bei
der Wiedergabe exakt spiegelbildlich
ZUm Aufnahmevorgang arbeiten kann,ist
es erforderlich,dass Aufnahme- und
Wiedergabepegel genau 'u'bereinstimmen.

Damit die unterschiedlichen Aufzeich-
nungs-Empfindlichkeiten verschiedener
Tonbandsorten (oder Chargen derselben
Sorte) kompensiert werden ko'nnen,be-
sitzt die DOLBY-Elektronik eine spe-
Zielle Aufnahme-Kalibriereinrichtung.

Matching of Recording and Reproduce
Levels

The DOLBY system employs a dynamic
filter whose characteristic is con-
trolled by the continuously varying
signal level. In order to ensure that the
system operates during reproduction in a
manner which produces the exact mirror
image of recording process,recording
and reproduce levels have to be matched
accurately.

Because tapes may vary in their recor-
ding sensitivity (even between batches
of the same type ) one has to correct for
these differences.lherefore,the DOLBY
electronics are equipped with a special
record calibration circuit.

Concordance entre les niveaux d'env
registrement et de lecture

Le systeme DOLBY utilise un filtre
dynamique a caractéristique variable
en fonction de la valeur instantannée
du niveau du signal d'entrée. Pour
que le systeme travaille selon la
caractéristique inverse parfaitement
symmétrique a la lecture,il faut 'que
les niveaux denregistrement et de
lecture concordent exactement.

Afin de composer non seulement la
difference de sensibilité des diver-
ses bandes,mais aussi la difference
pouvant exister entre plusieurs booi-
nes d'une méme sorte de bande,le sys-
teme DOLBY comporte un dispositif de
calibrage.

Kalibrieren vor der Aufnahme

Der nachfolgende Kalibriervorgang ist
vor jeder Aufnahme durchzufijhren.

- Ger'alt einschalten,Bandgeschwindig-
keit wahlenJonband einlegen

Schalter 9 auf 0N schalten (DOLBY-
Elektronik eingeschaltet)

- Aufnahmeregler Standard-Version@
und 0 auf Null-Anschlag drehen

- Aufnahmevorwahlschalter Standard-
Version G und/oder @ auf 0N
schalten

- MONITOR-Schalter (Standard-Version
G) auf TAPE schalten

Tonband auf Aufnahme starten
0-dB-TONE Taste Q drijcken

Die Aussteuerungsinstrumente (VU-
Meter) Standardeersion Q und 0
zeigen einen unbestimmten Betrag an
Die Kalibrierregler Q sind nun so
einzustellen,dass die Anzeige der
Aussteuerungsinstrumente exakt DdB
(100%) betragt

- Die Kalibrierregler G dijrfen f'u'r
die folgende Aufnahme nicht mehr
verstellt werden.Das Tonbandgerat
ist nun f'ur die Aufnahme mit DOLBY-
System bereit.

Calibration prior to Recording

The Following calibration procedure
has to be performed prior to each re-
cording.

- Select desired tape speed and switch
on the recorder.Load recorder with
tape

Press button @ to position 0N (DOL-
BV electronics switched on)

- Turn the record .level controls Q
and 0 fully counterclockwise to
their 0 position

- Switch record preselectors @ and/
or @ (depending on desired channel)
to position 0N

- Switch MONITOR-selector Q to posi-
tion TAPE

- Start machine in the record mode
- Press and hold button O-dB-TONE Q

- The VU-meters Q and Q will deflect
to an undefined reading

- Adjust the calibrating potentiometers
Q until a reading of DdB (100%)
exact is obtained

- The tape recorder is now ready to
record with the DOLBY noise reduction
system in effectJlith the recorder
so adjusted for a particular reel of
tape,the setting of the calibration
potentiometersQ must not be altered
while recording on that tape.

Calibrage avant l'enregistrement

Le réglage suivant doit étre effectué
avant lenregistrement.

- Enclenchez lappareil,choi5issez la
vitesse de défilement et placez la
bande

- Appuyez sur le poussoir Q en la

mettant en position 0N (électronique

Tournez les réglages d'entree @ et

@a la butée U

- Enclenchez les présélecteurs d'enre-
gistrement 0 et (ou) 9 sur la
position 0N

- Commutez le sélecteur du mode de re-
production MONITOR @sur la posi-
tion TAPE

- Demarrez en enregistrement(VU-metres)

- Appuyez sur la touche U-dB-TONE®

- Les indicateurs de niveau
O et 0 indiquent une valeur quel-
conque

- Tournez les boutons de calibragee
afin dobtenir sur les VU-metres la
valeur DdB (100%)

- Pour l'enregistrement qui va suivre
il ne faudra plus modifier le réglage
des boutons de calibrage®

- Le magnétophone est maintenant prét
pour effectuer un enregistrement
avec le systeme DOLBY.

Aufnahme

Vor jeder Aufnahme ist die Kalibrierung
zu kontrollieren Oder neu einzustellen.

Achtung :

Nahrend der Aufnahme darf die Taste 9
(0-dB-TONE) nicht gedruckt werden, weil
sonst die Testfrequenz der Kalibrier-
einrichtung aufgezeichnet wird.

Recording

Prior to each recording check the ca-
libration and recal ibrate if necessary.

Important :

while recording do not press the button
9 (U-dB-TONE),because this will have
the effect of recording the test signal
from the calibration circuit.

Enregistrement

Avant chaque enregistrement il est in~
dispensable de verifier ou d'effectuer
un nouveau calibrage.

Attention :

Pendant l'enregistrement la touchee
U-dB-TONE ne doit pas étre enfoncée,
sinon le signal test de calibrage
s'enregistre également.
