PIONEER
A four-channel integrated amplifier for the creation of a living presence
sound field from a variety of four-channel program sources.

This new Pioneer integrated amplifier is your musical passport
to the stunning adventure of four-channel stereo. A total capa-
bility unit that provides up to 204 watts of musical power at 4
ohms, the QA-800A permits the creation of a brilliant concert
hall acoustical field in your own listening room without the
additional cost of multiple stereo accessories. Its total of four
amplifiers, and matrix decoding circuitry, means that you may
create four-channel sound from any matrixed four-channel
source on the market, as well as discrete four-channel sources
and conventional two-channel records and tapes. The QA-BOOA,
thus, is capable of decoding the popular 80 matrix records, as
well as many other different four-channel matrix systems, al-
though none of these systems have distinct compatibility. And
because of this versatility, it becomes a solid sound investment
for the future. The rich sound of four-channel stereo is here now.
And Pioneers (DA-800A gets you into this total sound picture
better than any other unit of its kind or price.

SQ AND REGULAR MATRIX DECODER
Today there are almost as many matrix four-channel systems as there are
manufacturers-an unfortunate situation since none of these matrix systems
are compatible with the other. Pioneers choice of matrix systems for the
new QA-800A was based on research into all the many kinds of matrix
systems-and the decoding circuitry employed in this unit goes a long way
toward solving the four-channel matrix confusion for the audio fan.
Pioneers matrix system is actually a double system. One decoder is the
Regular Matrix type, which enable decoding of most kinds of systems now
available. The other is the SQ system decoder with unique front/back logic
circuit. for exclusive four-channel sound reproduction of SQ matrix system-
encoded sound program. This front/back logic circuit, employed in the
QA-800A. produces clear sound localization and quite natural sound repro-
duction. The QA-800A has additional versatility, too, beyond its matrix
decoding function. You may use this unit for discrete four-channel program
sources, and also for conventional two-channel sound sources. All in all,
there's really not a matrixed four-channel sound source now on the market
that can't be used with Pioneers QA-800A.
WIDE DYNAMIC RANGE HEADAMP SECTION
The QA-800A's head amp features an extremely wide dynamic range owing
to its low noise, long-life silicon transistors and two-stage direct coupled
circuit NFB equalizer. The result of matching these components is ex-
tremely low noise and a wide dynamic range, plus outstanding stability.
CLICK STOP TYPE TONE CONTROL
Use of low noise silicon transistors and click stop tone controls means that
GA-BOOA
precise setting of all controls is possible with the OA-800A. Separate con-
trols for both front and rear speakers, when the unit is used for four-chan-
nel stereo, are also provided.
BIG POWER AND WIDE POWER BANDWIDTH
The power amp section of the CIA-800A features a quasi-complementary
single ended push-pull circuit utilizing all high-performance silicon trans-
istors. The unit provides a generous continuous power output of 20 watts
x4 (4 channels driven at 8 ohms), and is complemented by a remarkable
15 to 50,000Hz power bandwidth (lHF. 8 ohms, 4 channels driven).
EXCLUSIVE PIONEER LEVEL CONTROLS
In addition to the master volume control of the QA-800A, which adjusts the
level of all four channels simultaneously, the unit is provided with four
separate level controls, one for each channel. These controls make overall
balance adjustments extremely easy, and they are especially useful when
front and rear speakers of different sensitivities are used. The controls also
permit balance adjustments for listening from any part of the room, not only
the exact center.
VERSATILE INPUT TERMINALS
The OA-800A includes two sets each of Phono, Tape and Aux inputs. With
the two Phono connections it is possible to compare two different stereo
cartridges. The pair of tape inputs allows you to use both open reel and
cassette decks simultaneously and accomplish tape-to-tape duplication with
ease. There is also a rear speaker selector that permits a choice of two
pairs of speaker systems.
