Instructions

Thank you for buying this Pioneer product.

Please read through these Operating instructions and then
you will know how to operate your model properly. After you
have finished reading the instructions, put them away in a
safe place for future reference.

These operating instructions are based on the model HE, and
they can be used for the HB, KU, KC, R, R/G models. The
differences between the models are given below.

HE model:
For Europe ('HE' stamped on packing case): power line
voltage is a.c. 220 volts ~.

HB model:
For U.K. I'HB' stamped on packing easel: power line
voltage is a.c. 240 volts ~.

KU and KC models:
For U.S.A. and Canada (KU' or KC' stamped on packing
case): power line voltage is AC 120 volts.

R and RIG models:
For destinations excluding above (R or RIG stamped on
packing case); A 2-point (a.c. 110 V - 120 V/220 V -
240 V) voltage selector switch isprovided.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
[For KU and KC models]

The serial number for this equipment is located on the rear
panel. Please write this serial number on your enclosed war-
ramy card and keep in a secure area. This is for your security.

KU (for U.S.A.) and KC (for Canada) models are not provid-
ed with LINE VOLTAGE SELECTOR switch.

LINE VOLTAGE SELECTOR SWITCH

Only R and RIG models are provided with this switch but
KU, KC and other models (HE, H8) are not provided with this
switch.
You will find the line voltage selector switch on rear panel.
This switch has positions for 110 V --- 120 V and 220 V -- 240
V power sources. Before your model is shipped from the fac-
tory , the switch is set to the power requirements of the
destination; nevertheless, you should check that it is set pro~
perIy before plugging the power cord into the AC outlet. If
the voltage is not properly set or if you move to an area
where the voltage requirements differ, adjust the selector
switch as follows. Before adjusting, disconnect the power
cord.
1. Prepare a medium size screwdriver.
2. Insert the screwdriver into the allow on the voltage selec-
tor and adjust so that the tip of the arrow points to the
voltage value of your area.

READ INSTRUCTIONS - Al the safety and
operating instructions should be read before the
appliance is operated.

RETAIN INSTRUCTIONS - The operating Instruc-
tions should be retained tor Iuture reference.
HEED WARNING - All warnings on the appliance
and in the operating instructions should be adhered

FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS - AI operating and use
instructions should be lolowed.

WATER AND MOISTURE - The applnnce should
not be used near water - lor example, near a
bathtub. wachbowl, kitchen sink. laundry tub, in a
wet basement. or near a swimming pool. etc.

LOCATION - The appliance should be hauled in a
stable location.

WALL OR CEILING MOUNTING - The appliance
should not be mounted to a we! or ceiletg.

VENTILATION - The appliance ahodd be situated so
that its location or position does not interlere with
its proper ventiation. For example. the appfiance
should not be situated on a bed. sofa, rug, or
alm'ear surface that may block the ventilation open-
ings; or. placod In a outrun insulation. such as a
bookcase or cabinet that may impede the llow of
air through the ventilation openings.

HEAT - The appliance should be situated away lrom
heat sources such as ratiators, heat registers.
stoves, or other appliances llnduding amplifiersl
that produce heat.

POWER SOURCES - The appliance should be con-
nectedtoepowareupplyonly olthetypedescrib-
ed In the operating ltetructlons or as marked on the
appliance.

POWER-CORD PROTECTION - Power-supply cords
should be routed so that they are not hlraly to be
walltedonorpinchedbyitemsplaceduponor
against them, paying particular attention to cords
at plugs. convenience receptacles. and the point
where they exit from the applnnce.

CLEANING - The appliance should be cleaned only
withapoishingclothoraaoftdfycloth. Never
clean with furniture wu, benzine. insecticides or
other volatile liquids since they may corrode the
cabinet.

POWER LINES - An outdoor antenna should be
located away from power lines.

NONUSE PERIODS - The power cord ol the ap'

OBJECT AND LIQUID ENTRY - Care should be
taken so that objects do not Tall and liquids are not
soiled into the chore through openings.

SERVICING - The user should not attermt to aarvice
the appliance beyond that described in the
operating instructions. For al'other servicing con-
tact the neareat Pioneer authorized service center.

OUTDOOR ANTENNA GROUNDING - If an outside
antenna is connected to the antenna terminal, be
sure the antenna system iagroundedsoaatopro
vida some protection against voltage surges and
built up static charges.

In the USA. section 810 of the National Electrical
Code, ANSIINEPA No. 70-IQI. provides interma-
tion with respect to proper grounds of the mast
and supporting structure. groom at me lead-in
wire to an antenna discharge unit. size at groun-
ding conductora. location of antenna-discharge
unit. connection to protruding electrodes. and re-

quirements tor the grounding electrode. See Fig.
A.

Make all connections to the AC outletls) and the signal
terminals first. Connect the plug to the wall socket last;
make sure that the power switch is off.

Disconnect the wall plug when the equipment is not in
regular use, 9.9. when on vacation.

Equipment sold in the U.I(. is not supplied with a
power plug.
The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance
with the following code:

Blue: Neutral

Brown: Live
As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this ap-
paratus may not correspond with the coloured markings
identifying the terminals in your plug. proceed as follows:
The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the
terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured
black.
The wire which is coloured brown must be connected to
the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured
red.
