Thank You for Choosing Parasound Congratulations on your purchase of this precision component and thank you for your selection of Parasound. We designed the Parasound Zselect to switch five pairs of speakers when it is connected to the speaker terminals of any stereo amplifier or receiver. Unpacking the Zselect Locate the small screwdriver which is included to connect wires to the Zselect terminals. After you unpack your Zselect, save the carton and packing inserts for safe transport in case you move or in the event it has to be shipped for repair. Zselect Placement Place your Zselect in a location which gives you convenient access to its buttons. Zselect Rack Mounting The Zselect occupies half the width of a single rack space in a standard 19 " equipment rack. For rack mounting you may purchase either a Parasound SBS mounting kit or a Zblank panel kit. The SBS enables you to mount the Zselect side by side with another Zseries component. The Zblank includes an SBS. Making Connections Each pair of wires attaches to a separate connector block. If you remove the connector blocks first theyll be more accessible. To remove a connector block, grip it firmly and pull it straight out. Unscrew the four small screws above the four square openings, just enough so that you can insert one stripped bare wire into each opening. Strip about 3⁄8" (8mm) of insulation from each wire. Twist the strands to prevent strays. Note: Right and left channel + and - wires must attach to the connector block openings which align with the + R - and + L - printed on the Zselect rear panel. Tighten each screw to hold its wire securely in place. After the four wires are attached to each connector block, reattach the connector in the rear panel of the Zselect. Match Amplifier and Speaker Polarity When you connect the wires, you will notice that the insulation on one of the wires has either printing or a raised ridge so you know which wire connects to the positive terminal at its other end. Make sure the + Input wires connect to the amplifiers + speaker terminals. Make sure each + speaker wire connects to that speakers + terminal. Input from the Amplifier or Receiver The In connector at the right side is for the four wires from your amplifier or receivers speaker terminals. Outputs to Speakers The 1-5 connectors are for the four wires going to each pair of speakers. Note: the connector corresponding to front panel button 1 is at the right. Zselect Operation Select any speaker pair by simply pressing the numbered button. Protect Button Press the Protect button to protect your amplifier from overload as you select additional pairs of speakers. With multiple pairs, the load the amplifier or receiver sees drops rapidly. For example, four pairs of 8 ohm speakers playing simultaneously is only a 2 ohm load. Receivers and even most separate power amplifiers do not have high enough current capability to tolerate load impedances below 4 ohms. Load impedances below 4 ohms may overload the amplifier, causing it to overheat itself and your surrounding components. This can result in serious damage. Note: We recommend pressing the Protect button whenever you connect two or more pairs of loudspeakers. Zselect Speaker Selector Parasound Products, Inc., San Francisco, CA USA RL5 RL4 RL3 RL2 RL1 RLIn
