Power pply Preparat'ons
Refer to the specifications (page 8) lor intorrnaticn on operating times when using rechargeable batteries or dry-cell batteries.
Using rechargeable batteries
Using the AC adaptor
Using the battery case
Make sure to recharge the batteries before using them.
The unit cannot be used to charge rechargeable batten
ies other than those specifically designed lor it.

Recharging procedure
Insert the special rechargeable bat-
teries into the unit.
2 Connect the AC adaptor.

Recharging starts and the charging indicator
flashes on and oft on the unit's display panel.
When the rechargeable batteries are fully re-
charged the charging indicator disappears. (it
takes approximately 3 hours to fully recharge the
supplied rechargeable batteries.)
3 When recharging ls complete, un-
plug the AC adaptor from the power
outlet and the DC IN jack.
ORechargeable batteries have a service life at approxi»
mately 300 charge-discharge cycles. it the operating
time on one full charge becomes noticeably shoner
than it used to be. the battery has reached the end of
its service life and should be replaced.
ORecharging may only be performed when the unit is
powered ott. (It is not possible to recharge the batter-
ies while playing a CD.)
OThe AC adaptor and rechargeable batteries may be-
come warm while recharging is in progress. This is not
a mallunction.

Using the car adaptor (not included)
Be sure to obtain the car adaptor (SH-0009). available
as an optional accessory.
CAUTION:
Use only car adaptor. Model: SH-CDCS manufac-
tured by Matsushita Electric Industrial 00.. Ltd.
The car adaptor can be used to recharge the unit's bat-
teries while in the car.
Using dry-cell batteries
(not included)
After disconnecting the AC adaptor. insen two 'AA"
(LFlS) alkaline batteries.
The procedure tor Inserting and removing
dry-cell batteries is Identlcal to that tor
rechargeable batterles.
When the battery indicator flashes

Power is cut oft a short while later. Recharge the
rechargeable batteries or replace the dry cell batteries
with new ones.

IThe length of time the unit will continue to operate
after the battery indicator starts llashing depends on
the type of batteries used.
OThe battery indicator may not flash it rechargeable
batteries. other than those designated by Panasonic.
are used.
The battery case allows you to extend the maximum
playing time of the unit by loading an additional two
M" (LRS) alkaline batteries.
0When using the battery case. always insert batteries in
'the unit body as well. (T he unit cannot be operated on
the batteries in the external battery case alone.)
0Though you can use rechargeable batteries in the bat-
tery case. it does not recharge them. (Use dry cell bat-
teries if possible.)
owhen using rechargeable batteries in the unit body.
and dryvcell batteries in the battery case. be sure to
use fully charged rechargeable batteries and new dry-
cell batteries
owhen using four dry-cell batteries. do not mix new and
old batteries.
1 Open the cover of the battery case
and insert the batterles.
Insert the end
marked (-) first.
2 Mount the battery case on the unit
body.

on the battery case
into the four
indentations in the
unit body.
Reverse the above procedure to remove the ex-
ternal battery case.
For your reference:
The maximum playing time will difler depending on the
type 01 batteries (rechargeable/dry-cell) loaded in th
unit body. .
If the cover of the battery case comes
loose:
Insert the
protmsions into the
holes on either end
of the lid.
It the unit malfunctlons or freezes during
use, then disconnect the power sources
(the AC adaptor and battery case).
Re-connect the power source and contln-
ue operation.

Release HOLD mode
This function causes the unit to ignore shon, accidental
button presses. (The disc lid can still be opened and
closed.)
HOLD function prevents the following:
OPowering on the unit accidentally (which can cause
_ the batteries to go dead).
.OPIay being cut off unexpectedly in the middle 01 a se-
lection.
To use HOLD tunctlon
Set the HOLD switch to the HOLD position.

When the unit is in HOLD status. pressing any opera-
tion button causes the indication ha l d" to appear on
the display.
When the unlt ls powered oft:
The "ho .' d indication appears only when the > H is
pressed.
