Reler to the specifications (page 8) for intormation on operating times when using rechargeable batteries or dry~cell batteries.
Using rechargeable batte
Recharge the batteries before use.
Recharging procedure
1 Slide [OPEN >] to open the lid.

2 Open the battery lids and insert the
two rechargeable batteries.
3 Connect the AC adaptor.

Recharging starts and a battery indicator appears
on the display as shown below.

When the rechargeable batteries are lully rev
charged, the battery indicator disappears. (it takes
approximately 4 hours to fully recharge the sup-
plied rechargeable batteries.)
4 When recharging is complete, un-
plug the AC adaptor from the
household AC outlet and the DC IN
jack.
ORechargeable batteries have a service life of approxi»
mately 300 charge-discharge cycles The batteries
have reached the end ol their operational lite if they
last lor a noticeably shorter time alter recharging, or it
they cannot be rechrged at all.
ORecharging may only be pedormed when the unit is
powered oil.
0The AC adaptor and rechargeable batteries may be-
come warm while recharging is in progress. This is not
a mallunotion.
ILeaving the AC adaptor connected can cause the bat-
teries to go llat. After recharging the batteries. discon-
necting the AC adapter lrorn the AC power outlet.
ensure you disconnect the adaptor from the unit's
(6-6-0 DO IN 4.5 V ] terminal.
It the battery lid comes loose
Insert the protrusions on the lid into the holes on both
sides ol the compartment. Ensure the lid is correctly tit-
ted belore closing it. Incorrect fitting can scratch your
CDs. _ .
Removing batteries
Press the and ol the battery ((9) and lift out.

Using the AC adaptor
Connect the AC adaptor supplied.
Refer to step 3 in Using rechargeable batteries" for
connection instructions
Conserving power
The AC adaptor consumes 1.2 W when the unit is
turned oft with II. OPR OFF]. To save power when the
unit is not to be used lor a long time. unplug the AC
adaptor from the household AC outlet. Reprogram
tracks it necessary before use.
Using the car adaptor (not included)
Be sure to obtain the car adaptor (SH-CD09), available
as an optional accessory.
CAUTION:
Use only car adaptor. Model: SH-CDCS manuIac-
tured by Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.. Ltd.
The car adaptor can be used to recharge the unit's bat-
teries while in the car.
Battery indicator
The battery charge is shown in five levels on the dis-
play.
When the battery indicator flashes
Power is cut oft a short while later. Recharge the
rechargeable batteries or replace the dry cell batteries
with new ones.
0When the unit is used with a AC adaptor. the battery
indicator is not displayed.
OThe battery indicator may temporarily show a lower
level or otherwise not operate correctly when search-
ing and skipping. and also it the unit is used in an ex-
tremely cold environment.
IThe length at time the unit will continue to operate be-
tween when the battery indicator starts llashing and
when the power is cut oil differs depending on the
type ol batteries used.
OThe battery indicator may not be displayed il recharge-
able batteries other than those designated by
Panasonic are used.
U 9 dry cell batteries
(not included)
The external battery case allows you to extend the max-
imum playing time ol the unit by leading an additional
two "AA" (LRS) alkaline batteries.
1 Open the cover of the external bat-
tery case and insert the batteries.
Insert the end
marked (7) lirst.
2 Mount the external battery case on
the unit.
Fit the case's protrusions into the holes on the
bottom at the unit then fit the case so it is llush
with the unit. Pull the screw out of the way while
fitting the case.
Reverse the above procedure to remove the ex»
ternal battery case.
For your reference:
The unit can be powered by the batteries in the external
battery case alone. No batteries need to be loaded in
the player.
If the cover of the external battery case
comes loose:
Insert the
protrusions on the
cover into the
holes in the case.
