0 SCMS (Serial Copy Management System)
SCMS allows the user to make digital recordings irom any digital source, including CD players and other DAT decks Only one generation
of copies is permitted, however. 80 it is not possible to make digital copies oi a copy. How does the system work? The DAT deck to
be used to make the copy checks the digital source signal for a special code that tells it whether unlimited copies. only a certain number
ol generations of copies. or no copies are permitted. (These codes are recorded on the master DAT tape along with the music signal.)
Naturally, with analog sources there is no such restriction, so the user can make as many generations of copies as desired.

Recording from a CD player using digital connections

or COAXIAL as appropriate.

0 See the diagram on this page for details of how to connect the
deck to a CD player or other digital source to make recordings
using these digital connections.

I If when attempting a digital input recording, the decks digital
indicator flashes, recording using digital connections cannot
be performed. This may be due to one of the following two
reasons:

1, The digital connection has not been made correctly.

2. The signal lrom the digital input includes a copy guard flag.
There may also be other reasons why recording is not pos-
sible.

It the digital indicator flashes, stop the tape. Recheck the
connections, and/or change to analog input.

0 When recording from DAT using digital connections. if the
source deck TOC indicator is lit, the recording deck's
indicator will light. and recording using digital

connections is not possible.

Sampling frequency

Digital recording may use one of three sampling frequencies (48kHz.
44.1 kHz, and 32kHz) depending on the source. (Sampling' reiers
to part of the digital~to~analog conversion process.)

48kHz: Tapes recorded with analog input.

DAT music tapes available in stores.
44.1 kHz: DAT music tapes commonly available CDs etc.
32kHz:

The sampling frequency indicator display switches automatically
according on the input signal.

SCMS (Serial Copy Management System)

This DAT deck conlorms to the SCMS standard SCMS means
that single-generation digital copying can be performed from CD
player and DAT sources. Multiple-generation digital copies are not
possible.
