Introduction Thank you for purchasing the X-CANS. We sincerely hope that the X-CANS will bring you many years of outstanding headphone listening pleasure. Installation Precautions Your new X-CANS is designed and built to provide trouble-free performance, as with all electronic devices it is however necessary to observe a few precautions. Please ensure that you have complied with these before you connect the power to your X-CANS. Retain this guide for future reference. n nDo not use the X-CANS near water. n nKeep the X-CANS away from heat sources such as radiators. n nOnly use the mains adaptor provided. The use of other adaptors could seriously damage your X- CANS. n nPlace all connecting cables where they are not likely to bewalked on or trapped by items placed on them. This Hi-Fi product has been tested to ensure that its operation will not be adversely affected by normal background levels of R.F.I. (Radio Frequency Interference). It is possible that if the unit is sub- jected to abnormally high levels of R.F.I. the unit may not perform as expected. In the unlikely event of this happening please contact Musical Fidelity's service department. Do not remove any covers, the X-CANS will not be covered under warranty if it has been tampered with. There are no adjust- ments within. Please refer all service work to an authorised Musical Fidelity agent. Caution! The X-CANS is capable of producing high listening levels with very low distortion into most headphones. Be aware that prolonged high level listening can permanently damage your hearing.Connections All connections should be made before the mains adaptor is plugged in. The X-CANS can be easily connected either to an available line level output or into the tape monitor loop of most amplifier systems. If your system has an unused line level output (for instance an unused tape record output) simply connect a set of RCA/phono leads from this output to the Line In sockets on the X-CANS rear panel as shown below. If there is no spare set of outputs the X-CANS can be connected between your amplifier and tape recorder (in the tape monitor loop) in the following way. Connect a set of RCA/phono leads from the amplifier Tape Record ouputs (sometimes labelled Tape Out) to the X-CANS Line In sockets on the rear panel. Then connect another set of RCA/phono lead from the Line Out sockets on the X-CANS rear panel to the Line In (or Tape Record) input of your tape recorder. See below. With either type of connection whichever source is selected on your amplifier, will automatically be sent to the X-CANS for headphone listening. For the best results we recommend that you use Musical Fidel- ity X-LINX "no-nonsense" interconnect cables for all connections. The X-CANS has been designed so that it may be left on indefi- nitely.
