AUTOMATIC DEGAUSSER

This receiver is equipped with an
automatic built-in degausser. It is
a temperature controlled unit and is
activated each time the receiver is
turned on, The degaussing action
takes place within the first 10
seconds after the receiver is turned
on and before the picture comes on.
The degaussing action cannot be
seen. To degauss after the receiver
has been on and has reached its
maximum operating temperature, it
will be necessary to turn the re-
ceiver off and allow it to cool for
approximately 5 minutes, If the re-
ceiver has been on for only a few
minutes, then the required cooling
period is reduced.

Upon initial installation. we suggest
you degauss the entire receiver and
picture tube with a Conventional
portable degaussing coil.

FOCUSING ADJUSTMENT

Set brightness and contrast for nor-
mal picture. Then adjust focus con-
trol (located on chassis) for best
overall focus, center to edge of
screen.

DEFLECTION YOKE TILT ADJUSTMENT

Loosen the yoke retainer clamp and
rotate yoke until picture is straight.
Do not slide yoke forward or back-
wards on the neck of the tube as
purity will be affected, Tighten the
clamp screws when adjustment is
completed.

PICTURE CENTERING

Vertical and horizontal centering
controls are located on the rear of
the chassis.

NOTE: Large control excursions
will affect convergence.

COLOR KILLER

Tune in black and white picture.
Starting with control in full clock-
wise position. when viewed from
rear of receiver, turn control
counter-clockwise slowlyuntilcolor
noise or snow disappears. Check
all channels. If noise or snow re-
mains on with a black and white
picture, continue turning control

L counter- clockwise. Che ck setting

when tuned to a color signal to
make sure it was not over-adjusted
on the black and white signal, there-
by killing the color signal.

VERTICAL SIZE 3. LINEARITY

Both vertical size and linearity con-
trols are located on the back of the
chassis. Slight adjustments can be
made with the vertical size control
without affecting vertical linearity.
Large control excursions should
only be made prior to convergence.

HIGH VOLTAGE ADJUSTMENT

Reduce brightness control to mini-
mum, full counter-clockwise (adjust
master G-1, if necessary, to extin-
quish raster).

Measure the high voltage at the 2nd
anode with an accurately calibrated
BOKV voltmeter. Adjust horizontal
bias control located at rear of
chassis for 27KV 2nd anode voltage.

Alternate Method

Reduce brightness control to mini-
mum, full counter-clockwise (adjust
master G-l, if necessary. to extin-
quish raster),

With 120V AC line voltage, adjust
horizontal bias control until 890V
DC is measured at the raw boost
terminal, see Figure A.

FINE TUNING ADJUSTMENT

This receiver employs a drum-type
VHF tuner with aconcentricpre-set
fine tuning mechanism.

Rotating the fine tuning knob in either
direction automatically engages the
fine tuning mechanism and automat-
ically disengages when knob is re-
leased.

To fine tune, rotate fine tuning knob
in either direction for best picture
and sound.

PINCUSHION

Adjust bottom amplitude control to
minimum rotation (maximum clock-
wise), then adjust top tilt coilfor the
straightest possible line near the top
of screen (see Figure #4).

Adjust bottom amplitude control for
the straightest possible line near the
bottom of screen (see Figure #4).

HORIZONTAL HOLD ADJUSTMENT
(L-SDO)

Adjust the horizontal hold on the
rear of the cabinet for most stable
horizontal and color sync while
switching from channel to channel.

AGC ADJUSTMENT

NOTE: AGC control is accurately
adjusted at the factory. Avoid un-
necessary adjustment.

To adjust. tune in a channel for best
picture and sound. Turn the AGC
control counter-clockwise (when
viewed from rear of receiver) until
the picture becomes unstable (rolls
down or slips, etc). Then, turn
control clockwise until the picture
returns to normal. Check all 'chan-
nels; ii any are unstable ' humus
turning control clockwisgfbntil the
picture is normal on all channels.

VIDEO PEAKING CONTROL

The video peaking control should
normally be set in maximum clock-
wise position for optimum video
response. If high frequency back-
ground noise is visible on CRT. turn
video peaking control counter-
clockwise to eliminate the back-
ground noise.

NOISE GATE CONTROL

The noise gate control is used to
adjust the receiver for best hold
stability under noise and different
signal strength conditions.

To adjust, tune in a channel for best
picture and sound, Turn the noise
gate control clockwise (whenviewed
from rear of receiver) until the
picture becomes unstable (rolls
down or slips. etc.). Thenturncon-
trol counter-clockwise until the pic-
ture just returns to normal. Check
all channels; if any are unstable,
continue turning control counter-
clockwise until the picture is just
normal on all channels.

TINT CONTROL

The tint control serves a dual pur-
pose; on black and white, it is nor-
mally set to approximately the
center of its range, On color pro-
grams, it is adjusted toward the
right (clockwise) position for best
flash tones.

pattern should now be converged.

The 0-2 controls should now be re-
set for a white background. Gener-
ally. since the blue 6-2 is the only
one disturbed, it is possible to set

at low brightness while observing a
local station.

. CONVERGENCE PROCEDURE

GENERAL CONVERGENCE
PROCEDURE

The following eight steps outline, in
general, the complete step by step
convergence procedure that follows:

1. Demagnetize shadow mask with
degaussing coil.

. a. Dc converge all three colors in
center area of screen.

3. Adjust purity ring for center
screen area red, adjust yoke posi-
tion for outer area red.

4. Set tint control to its mechanical
center and set black and white
brightness tracking.

, 5. Properly center and size picture.

6. Dynamically converge all three
é colors.

7. Re-check Steps #2 and #3.

8. Repeat Step #4.

PURITY 8. CONVERGENCE
PROCEDURE

PRELIMINARY PURITV ADJUSTMENTS

1. Connect crosshatch generator to
antenna terminals and fine tune for
best picture. Set brightness and
contrast to normal.

2. Remove back coverto gain access
to the convergence controls. Re-
move the 1/4 hex head screws 5 -
curing convergence panelto chassis.
The convergence panel may be ro-
tated to aposition along side the cab-
inet. Use one screw to secure con-
Vergence panel in this position.

3. Check adjustment ofvertical size
and linearity, vertical centering,
horizontal centering, center of
screen focus and then adjust con-
trols if necessary to obtain a pat-
tern of proper focus, size and lo-
cation (see Figure #3).

4. Demagnetize receiver (use de-
gaussing coil around front and all

necessary to have the three beams
in their approximate positions be-
fore purity is adjusted.

PURITY

1. Tune receiver to a blank channel
or crosshatch generator pattern
having a white background. A white
noise free raster can be obtained by
setting tuner between channels.

a. Set contrast to minimum. bright-
ness to normal level and tint control
to its mechanical center (seeFigure
#2.).

3. Turn blue and green (3.2 con-
trols to minimum and red (3-2 to
maximum (see Figure #2).

4. Move yoke asfarbackas possible
without hitting the convergence yoke.

5. Starting with the coloredor same
shaped tabs on the purity ring to-
gether (see Figure #4), spreadthem
slowly and rotate the purity ring as
a unit to place the red area at the
center of screen.

6. Slide yoke forward and position
for best overall red field. Usually
it is not necessary to slide yoke
against the CRT hell.

7. Level deflection yoke and tighten
yoke clamps.

8. Check the purity of the blue and
green fields by turning down the red
(3-; and turning up the blue and
green (3-2 controls in turn. Nor-
mally, when red field purity is ob-
tained the green and blue fields are
also pure. If either of the fields
show impurity, adjust purity ring
and/or yoke and then recheck the
other two fields.

PRELIMINARY CONVERGENCE 5.
BACKGROUND ADJUSTMENTS

When adjusting the set-up controls,
the 0-2 controls are adjusted to
make the three beams extinquish at
the same time (white raster at low
brightness). The video drive con-
trols are adjusted for a white ras-
ter at high brightness levels. The
CRT should then remain white be-
tween these two extreme brightness
settings.

NOTE: The tint control should
change the white raster from red to
white to blue.

At high brightness levels, wherethe
drive controls are adjusted, it is
difficult to see a loss of red. The
drive controls should be adjusted
first until red is clearly visible and
then alternately advanced until the
screen is a warm white.

1. 'Set blue and green drive controls
to mid-position and set tint control
to mid-position (see Figure #3).

Z. Set master G-1 control to mini-
mum.

3. Tune receiver to a blank channel
and set contrast to minimum.

4. Adjust all G-z controls to maxi-
mum (fully right).

5. Adjust BRIGHTNESS control un-
til the raster is just visible (adjust
master G-l if necessary to see
raster).

6. Observe color of raster and re-
duce the (3-2 controls of the pre-
dominant colors. The 6-2 control
for the weakest color should be left
at maximum. then bring other can-

trols up to produce a gray raster.

7. Advance BRIGHTNESS control to
maximum (clockwise) and contrast
control to minimum (counter-clock-
wise). Set tuner between channels.

a. Set line voltage at 120v AC.
Measure voltage at boost terminal.
Figure A. Starting with masterG-l
at minimum (counter-clockwise),
adjust master 0-1 for a 40 volt DC
drop in boost.

Alternate Method

Set BRIGHTNESS control to maxi-
mum (clockwise) position and con-
trast control to minimum (counter-
clockwise) position.

Starting with the masterG-l control
in its maximum Counter-clockwise
position, slowly rotate the master
G-l control until the picture just
STARTS to go out of focus. Then turn
the control back approximately 45 .

9. ReduCe BRIGHTNESS control to
normal brightness and check color
of screen, If screen is white or
gray (with tint control in its mid-
position), set-up procedure is com-
pleted. If any color is dominant,
proceed with Step #10.

10. Touchvup video drive controls,
if necessary, to produce a warm
white raster.

ll. Reduce BRIGHTNESS to gray
raster and touch~up G-Z controls.
if necessary.

3. Adjust the three disc magnets
andthe blue lateral magnet for con-
vergence of all three beams at the
center of the screen(seeFigure #4).

B. DYNAMIC CONVERGENCE

2. Adjust R-G vertical tilt to con-
verge the center vertical line at
top of screen (Step #2).

NOTE: If the range of the R-G vert-
ical amp and tilt controls is inade-
quate, move the black wire jumper
to its opposite position as indicated
on the legened side of convergence
panel.

Alternately repeat Steps #1 and #2
for best convergence at top and
bottom of center vertical line, Best
convergence is obtained by super-
imposing the lines from the center
outward. However, the proper ad-
justment of these controls may re-
sult in the red and green lines being
parallel. If this condition exists,
converge the lines by using the disc
magnets.

3. Adjust the 11-6 vertical differ-
ential amp control to converge a
horizontal line near the bottom of
the screen (Step #3).

4. Adjust the R-G vertical differ-
ential tilt to converge a horizontal
line near the top of the screen
(sup )4).

If the horizontal lines in the center
of the screen are misconverged, re-
peat Steps #3 and #4 for equally
spaced horizontal lines from top to
bottom of screen. Re-adjust disc
magnets if necessary. Re-adjust
the s-c. vertical amp and tilt con-
trols (Steps #1 and #2) for center
vertical lines, it necessary.

5. Turn up the blue G-Z Control and
reduce the blue vertical amp to
minimum (Step #5).

6. Adjust the blue vertical tilt con-
trol to produce equal displacement
in the same direction of the blue
horizontal lines with respect to red
and green from the top to bottom
of screen (Step #6).

Adjust the blue vertical amp tapro-
duce displacement in the same
direction of the blue horizontal lines
at the top, center and bottom o£ the
screen (Step #5).

NOTE: If the range of the blue
vertical amp and tilt controls is in-
adequate, reverse the positioning of
the brown and blue jumpers as in-

cal line controlto make the vertical
lines from the center to the right
lids converge (Step #7).

5. Adjust the left-side R-G vertical
line control to make the vertical
lines from the center to the left side
converge (Step #5).

Re-tuuch the right and left R-G Vert-
ical line controls for best overall
convergence of the vertical lines or
for an error that lends itselfto cor-
rection by the disc magnets.

9. Adjust the R-G horizontal lines
control to make the horizontal red
and green lines converge or sym-
metrical at the right and left side
of screen (Step #9).

Repeat Steps #7, #8 and #9 for best
overall convergence, or for equal
spacing of lines which can be cor-
rected with the disc magnets.

10. Adjust the R~G horizontal
differential tilt control to make the
center horizontal line converged or
for equal displacement to permit
convergence with the disc magnets.

ll. Turn up the blue G-Z control.
The blue horizontal amp control
which is also used in Step #14 must
first be adjusted to maximum clock-
wise rotation (Step #11).

12. Adjust the blue horizontal tilt
control until the droop in the blue
line is in the center of the screen
(Step #12).

13. Adjust the blue horizontalphase
until the droop in the blue line is
forced upward (Step #13).

14. RIB-adjust blue horizontal amp
control until blue line is converged
on 2.4:. line along a center horizon-
tal line or for equal displacement
to permit convergence with the disc
magnets (Step #14).
