Simplicity, musicality, ease-of-use, and seamless hassle-free operation are some
of the qualities that come to mind when describing a desireable preamplifier.
Combine these attributes with incredible sonic resolution and a dead silent black
background and you have the
MOON P-7, a dual-mono fully balanced preamplifi-
er. Cutting edge technology meets extreme build quality is perhaps the best way
to sum it up. Designed for the discerning audiophile who strives to get as close to
the music as possible without ever having to look back. Completing the equation
is flexibility -“ an RS-232 port, IR input and 12 volt trigger are included to allow for
seamless integration of the
MOON P-7 into virtually any listening environment. Authoritative, dynamic and effortless are what one comes to expect from a world-
class power amplifier. These attributes are only the tip of the iceberg when
describing the
MOON W-7 dual-mono power amplifier. Utilizing a balanced circuit
topology, this amplifier employs the same technologies found in our flagship
MOON W-8 amplifier; The proprietary Lynx circuitry is responsible for its
phenomenal speed, detail and accuracy, yielding an extremely natural sound with
absolutely no sonic colorations. The end result is a high current amplifier capable
of driving virtually any known speaker load. delivering a very potent 150 watts per
channel into 8 ohms and 300 watts into 4 ohms. Rounding out the package,
the
W-7 includes an RS-232 port, a 12 Volt trigger and real-time self-diagnostic
monitoring circuits for both the presence of DC in the input signal and unsafe
operating temperatures. Finally, you can personally customize the physical appearance of all
MOON Evolution series models to best suit your needs and/or match your listening room
decor with our C4aesthetics package.
Simaudio Ltd. has been designing and manufacturing innovative, leading-edge
audio and video products since 1980.
MOON products have been globally
recognized for their world-class performance, garnering numerous accolades
for this outstanding achievement. Our products are engineered and built in
Canada, utilizing advanced, efficient, "green" assembly techniques with strict
quality control. Furthermore, our manufacturing processes are part of our philoso-
phy, whereas the high quality and long-life of
MOON products are the best way to
preserve our environment, avoiding premature obsolesence. MOON products
meet or exceed all international requirements for safety, performance and
durability. At Simaudio, great music matters. However, great music for a lifetime
matters most.
P-7 Significant Design Features W-7 Significant Design Features
An oversized dual-mono power supply
using 3 toroidal transformers in conjnction
with 5 stages of DC voltage regulation and
extensive choke filtering.
M-eVOL volume control circuit based on a
resistive array configuration with no sonic
degradation of the audio signal regardless
of the selected volume setting. Power supply voltage regulation includes
i2DCf (Independant Inductive DC Filtering)
- 24 stages in all. Full unsolicited RS-232 bidirectional
feedback, IR input for external control
(all discrete codes), 12 Volt trigger for remote
operations and SimLink controller port allows
for 2-way communications between other
MOON Evolution series components. Four-layer PCB tracings; 1 on top for ground
plane, 1 on the bottom for power circuitry
and 2 in middle for the audio signals. The
advantages include better ground and
power supply circuit layouts resulting in a
much shorter signal path and dramatically
improved signal-to-noise ratio.
- "Gain Offset for each individual line
input with a ±10dB range.
- Each line input is fully configurable
to be home-theater ready, where
the volume of the P-7 is bypassed.
- 130 individual volume steps in 1dB
and 0.5dB increments.
- Fully differential, no global feedback
circuit topology, using absolutely
no capacitors anywhere in the audio
signal path.
- An exceptionally short signal path
measuring less than 8 inches in length
from the rear panel's input to output
connectors, yielding a much faster
transient response. Ultra rigid chassis construction to minimize
the effects of external vibrations.
Pure copper circuit board tracings with
extremely low impedance characteristics.
- Lynx circuitry which is a "zero global
feedback" design resulting in real-time
amplification, a more accurate musical
reproduction with respect to tonality,
virtually non-existent intermodulation
distortion and the elimination of common
phase errors resulting from feedback.
- A high damping factor yielding superior
musical dynamics, improved signal
speed and refined timbre accuracy.
- A very short capacitor-free signal path for
a faster transient response.
- Stable to any known speaker impedance.Ultra rigid chassis construction to minimize
the effects of external vibrations.
Technical information
A great deal more energy from a power amplifier is required to reproduce musical
information below 400Hz. Amplifiers with a low damping factor (and higher output
impedance) have to work harder produce this energy. The majority of available
power amplifiers possess a damping factor in the range of 200
(red), as shown on
figure 4. Simaudio amplifiers operate with very low output impedances (typically
<0.01 ohms), therefore yielding a damping factor greater than 800 in the all-important
sub-400Hz range.
Significantly better dynamics result in a much more
powerful and authoritative bottom-end ...The immense energy of a full symphony
orchestra comes to life in your own home.
Ahigh dampling factor ensures an excellent grip on woofer cone motion, which
reduces overshoot, and unwanted oscillations. Also greatly improves immunity to
variations in quality and length of speaker cables used.
The three response curves in figure 3 demonstrate (i) a theoretically perfect
transformer regulation factor of 0% (green), whereby voltage remains stable
regardless of the current draw, (ii) a remarkably low regulation factor of 3% (black),
found in
MOON W-7 amplifier, where the voltage drops very slightly as the current
draw increases and (iii) a typical regulation factor of 10% (red), whereby, as the
current draw increases, power supply voltage drops significantly, as found in most
competing amplifier designs.
Powerful musical passages are faithfully and
thoroughly reproduced in an effortless manner.
Apower supply transformer with a tight regulation (low) factor assures that
power into more difficult speaker loads will be delivered closer to the theoretical
ideal. These transformes are significantly more expensive, but are the only way to
assure stability and consequently excellent sound quality under all conditions.
An oversized power supply.
Precision matched and fully decoupled
Bipolar output devices which offer superb
linearity throughout the entire audio
frequency spectrum (12 per channel). Full unsolicited RS-232 bidirectional
feedback, IR input for external control
(all discrete codes) and 12 Volt trigger
for remote operations .
Custom proprietary toroidal transformer
design with lower magnetic, electrical
and thermal loss, yielding an improved
power transfer and lower regulation
factor. The result is increased current
speed and better dynamics.
