1. WIRE

Use no. 16 gauge wire (heavy duty two conductor lamp
cord) to connect the speakers to the amplifier If the
desired cord lenght for either speaker exceeds 30 feet,
use no. 14 gauge wire or heavier

2. TERMINALS

After stripping about IrP-inch of Insulation from the
ends of your speaker cable. firmly twist the fine copper
strands into a neat tight ~ropo-. It is best to attach iri-
sulaled wrre terminals to the cable to prevent accidon
tel shorting. Even a stray strand of copper across the
amplifier or speaker terminals can damage your ampli.

you staple or nail your speaker cables

3, SPEAKER PHASING

To assure the best stereo separation and froquency
response. the speakers must be properly phased, Nor-
mally. the positive terminal on each speaker should be
connected to its respective (+) terminal on the ampli.
fier. and the negative terminal should be connected
to its respective f-i terminal Use the polarity mar
kings on the wires to aid in making identical connec-
tion to each speaker, The symmetry of connection
(i to l. etc.) is called phasing. Improper phaslng
won't hurt lnythlngl To test the phasing. temporarily
position the speakers about six inches apart. face-to-
face. Connect and listen with your amplifier in the
«mono .. mode. Then, turn off the power and reverse
the connections on only one speaker. and listen again.
Your speakers are properly phased with the connec-
tion giving the most bass in the mono mode, Return
the amplifier to stereo and place the speakers in the
desired locations.

4. SPEAKER PLACEMENT

Speaker placement is a matter of your plenum and

5. ROOM EQUALIZATION

Since every listening environment is different. and your
living room may have reflective surfacos and resonan-
ces that alter the frequency balance. this speaker sys-
tem is equipped With three continuously variable cross-

8. GRILL REMOVAL

To remove the foam grill. Simply pull the corners away
from the front of the cabinet. The grill is held in
place by hook and loop fastener tape.

7. VAIIl-O DAMPING

A removable acoustical plug is included to change the
frequency response characteristics at low frequencies,
You may find that extreme low frequency response is
not appropriate for some applications. due perhaps to
limited amplifier power. High dynamic material, such
as rock music at high listening levels. may cause a
lowpowerod amplifier to distort. or «clip ~. By rumo-
ving the acoustical plug to change the system to a
tuned port design. the speaker is made more efricient
(3 dB) in the 50 to 100 Hz region, in this frequency
range the speakers power requirement is cut in half,
However. extreme low frequency response (below 50
Hz) will be reduced when the plug is removed. Again
experimentation and personal taste will determine the
ideal arrangement.
