AC 110-120 / 220-240 V switchable AC voltage selection The AC voltage selector switch on the rear panel is set to the voltage that prevails in the area to which the unit is shipped. Before connecting the power cord to your AC outlet, make sure that the setting position of this switch matches your line voltage. If not, it must be set to your voltage in accordance with the following direction. AC 110 –120V AC 220 –240V AC voltage selector switch Move switch lever to match your line voltage with a small screwdriver or other pointed tool. Note: Our warranty does not cover damage caused by ex- cessive line voltage due to improper setting of the AC voltage selector switch.

10 Preparation section System connection Malfunction of microcomputer If operation is not possible or erroneous display appears even though all connections have been made properly, reset the microcomputer referring to ÒIn case of difficultyÓ. ¨¸ Connection of the System Accessories This figure shows the method of connection be- tween the main unit and provided accessories. 1234 Twist AM loop antenna The supplied antenna is for indoor use. Place it as far as possible from the main system, TV set, speaker cords and power cord, and set it to a direction which provides the best reception. Speaker (right) Main Unit CAUTION Note on Connection Connect the components as shown in the diagram. Only plug the power cord into a power outlet once connections are completed. 12 3 4 1.Never short-circuit the Ò+Ó and Ò-Ó speaker cords. 2.If the left and right speaker connections or the Ò+Ó and Ò-Ó polarity are inverted, the sound will be unnatural with unclear positioning of musical instruments, etc. Be sure to connect them without mistake. 3.Be sure to insert all connection cords securely. If their connections are imperfect, the sound may not be produced or noise may interfere. 4.Before plugging or unplugging a connection cord, be sure to unplug the power cord from the wall AC outlet. If connection cords are plugged or unplugged with the power cord left plugged in, malfunction or damage may result. Notes Notes

To set or enter the setting of the selected item, press the Òset/demo Ó key. 1CD cover open (0) Press to open the CD player cover. 2Display 3Tape record key (TAPE rec) Ü Press to start recording. Pressing the key during recording stops it after leaving a non-recorded space (blank) of about 4 seconds. 4Òset/demoÓ key Press to set or enter an item selected with the ÒVOLUME/ multi controlÒ. Used for demonstration ON/OFF. 5ÒmenuÓ key % Press to switch the function of the ÒVOLUME/multi control (up/down)Ó knob. This key is also used when setting the time of the day. 6Òpanel open / closeÓ key 7CD play/pause key (CD 6) ) Press to select the CD input and start CD playback. Press during CD playback to let it pause temporarily. 8MD play/pause key (MD 6) ª Press to select the MD input and start MD playback. Press during MD playback to let it pause temporarily. During TAPE operation : ¦ Press to search in the forward or backward direction. During TUNER operation : ¥ Press to receive a preset station. These keys are also used during MD editing, track number selection and title character selection. $ÒrepeatÓ key Þ¡ Used for repeated playback of CD or MD. %MD record key (MD rec) Ú Press to start MD recording. ^ÒsoundÓ key ( Used for switching the EX.BASS play and LOUDNESS play. &ÒTUNER/bandÓ key ¥ The received broadcasting band is switched. Press to select the TUNER input. AUX input key Press to listen to the input source connected to AUX (analog external). *MD eject key(0) This key is pressed to remove disc. (Mini Disc insertion slot )ÒVOLUME/multi control (up/down)Ó knob% Normally this is used for volume adjustment. Á Remote sensor ªÒon/standbyÓ key The system is switched ON and STANDBY. Standby / timer indicator Light in standby mode of power. Red :Normal standby mode Orange :O.T.T. standby :Program timer standby Green :Power ON mode * About the REVOLVING CONTROL PANEL menu set/demo VOLUME / multi control REVOLVING CONTROL PANEL (close state) ÖThe REVOLVING CONTROL PANEL is closed when the power supply is in STANDBY mode. ÖWhen the power is switched ON, the REVOLVING CONTROL PANEL opens. ÖWhen the power is ON, the panel opens and closes alternately each time the "panel open / close" key is pressed. Let's put out some sound In regard to the DOT/ CHARA. key ÖWhen no track name (track title) and no disc name (disc title) has been recorded, ÒNO TITLEÓ is displayed. ÖÒBLANK DISCÓ is displayed when not even one track has been recorded. (When there is a disc title, the disc title will be displayed.) When a title recorded in a CD-TEXT or MD disc is too long to be displayed in the dot display, press this key to scroll the display and view the characters which has not be displayed. With an MD, this key is also used to switch the dot display modes. With a CD-TEXT or MD disc (When pressed during stop) (When pressed during playback) Scrolls the track title display. MD Scrolls the disc title display. (When pressed during stop or playback) (When pressed during MD recording) (Return to 1 after title scroll display.) ( The display returns to 1 in 5 seconds.) MD recording is possible as Òdigital recordingÓ, where the digital signal of the CD is used as it is, and as Òanalog recordingÓ, where the analog signal of a broadcast etc. is converted to a digital signal. Let's recording 1.Make the preparations for recording. In the direction of the arrow 1Open the write protect tab of the Mini Disc to make it recordable. 8 2Load the Mini Disc. 2.Select the source to be recorded. Select an input source other than ÒMDÓ TUNER (Broadcasts) : Only analog recording CD : Only digital recording TAPE : Only analog recording AUX (tape etc.) : Only analog recording LightsÖIf a CD or tape has already been loaded, it starts to play now. Press the 7 key to stop it. ÖIf the CD input is selected, the digital input is recorded automatically.The character information display shows the recording input source. Pause the recordingStop the recording CAUTION The MD cannot be loaded or ejected while the unit is in standby mode. Do not force load a MD in standby mode, otherwise malfunction will result. Application section HM-381MD (En) 62 1Adjust the input level. 2Set it 1Select AUX (external input). 2Play the connected equipment. 2 3 1 Adjusting the AUX Input Level This adjusts the input level for the external equipment (video deck etc.) connected to the AUX input terminal. Adjust so that the volume of the AUX input source sounds at an equivalent level to the CD or MD. (Main unit operation only) Set level (display for about 5 sec) ÖAdjust the input level while ÒINPUTÓ is displayed. ÖAdjustment is possible over the range from -6 to +3. Select AUX (external input). The level decreases.The level increases. Select ÒAUX LEVEL ?Ó. ( Press the Òset/demoÓ key while the Ò?Ó mark is blinking.)
