PICTORIAL 1-8

Refer to Pictorial 1-8 for the following steps.
( ) Position the display circuit board as shown.

NOTE: Use the plastic nut starter to hold and start M3 and
M35 nuts on screws.

( ) Mount angle brackets at C and D with M3 x 6 mm
screws, M3 lockwashers. and M3 nuts. Mount the
shorter side of each bracket to the circuit board and
position the brackets as shown.

CIRCUIT BOARD CHECKOUT

Carefully inspect the circuit board for the following
conditions

( ) Unsoldered connections.

( ) Poor solder connections.

[ ] Solder bridges between foil patterns.

( ) Protruding leads which could touch together.

[ ) Transistors for the proper type and installa-
tion.

( ) Electrolytic capacitor for the correct position
of the positive [+ ) and negative (-) lead.

( ] Integrated circuit and LEDs for the proper in-
stallation.

This completes the Display Circuit Board Assem-
bly." Set it aside until it is called for later.

HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT YOUR MOST
ACCURATE CLOCK

If you know which area your trouble is in. apply
the "Visual Checks" to that area.

You may also go directly to the Troubleshooting
Charts" to see if the difficulty you are having is listed
in one of the Problem" columns. If your difficulty
is listed there. check the "Possible Causes" listed
for that problem and apply the Visual Checks"
listed to the area of difficulty.

REPAIRING THE MOST ACCURATE CLOCK

When you make repairs to the Most Accurate Clock,
make sure you eliminate the cause as well as the

effect of the difficulty. If. for example. you should
find a damaged resistor. be sure that you find out
what caused the resistor to become damaged. If the
cause is not eliminated, the replacement resistor
may also become damaged when you put the Clock
back into operation. Do Not attempt to align or repair
the factory-assembled receiver circuit board. Return
the unit for service if the receiver board is suspect.

SHIPPING

IMPORTANT: If it becomes necessary to ship the
Most Accurate Clock to the Heath Company or a
Heath Electronic Center. attach the top and bottom
covers to protect the circuit boards during shipment
and remove the telescoping antenna.

TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

This Troubleshooting Chart lists specific difficulties
that could occur in your Most Accurate Clock. Sev-
eral possible causes may be listed for each difficulty.
Refer to the X-Ray Views" of the circuit board and
the Schematic Diagram to locate and identify the
parts listed in this chart.

If a particular part is mentioned [R101 for example)
as a possible cause. check that part and other compo-
nents connected to that part to see that they are in

stalled and/or wired correctly. Also check for solder
bridges and poor connections in the surrounding
area. It is also possible. on rare occasions. for a part
to be faulty and require replacement.

NOTE: Check each indicated resistor in the problem
area and make sure it is not interchanged with a
similar color-coded resistor. This applies mainly to
the 1% precision resistors. which are especially easy
to misread.

PROBLEM

POSSIBLE CAUSE

No display (nothing on the display circuit board is lit).

1. Fuse F201 is open (or fuse F202 it you are operating
on 12 VDC).
Display switch 510! is in the on position.

2.
3. $101 is improperly soldered or laulty.

Digits will not light. All appropriate LEDs are lit.

1 . Normal condition it the clock has not set itself. or it
power was lost temporarily.

2. U101 is detective or improperly installed.

3. Stop switch 8502 is shorted.

One digit is lit, other digits are off.

1. Clock oscillator is inoperative. Check transistors
0204 through 0207 and their associated
components.

Microprocessor IC U203.

. . This may be normal it the Clock has not set itself.
