Dau-iption

The Electra-Voice Q44T amplifier is a very
high-quality power amplifier designed to
elicit excellent performance from any
speaker system as well as 25V. 70.7V and
100V lines. Its low distorn'on and substan-
tial headroom ensure that program material
will be accurately amplified.

Each channel of the Q44T delivers more
than 230 watts continuous average power
into 8 ohms and 350 watts into 4 ohms
over a frequency range of 4S - 20,000 Hz.
In its transformer-isolated dual mode, it can
deliver more than 350-watts into E, 70.7 or
100-voltlincs. In the bridged mode at 1 kHz,
the amplifier can deliver more than 900 watts
into 8 ohms at less than 1% THE). Both di-
rect and transformer-isolated outputs may be
used simultaneously. The well-designed
power supply with its large toroidal trans-
former gives the amplifier impressive head-
room and current output.

The 0441 contains 16 high-power output
devices with 4,000 watts of dissipation ca-
pability. These devices are protected from
overheating by two, three-speed tempera-
ture-sensitive films. The fans are quiet enough
to permit use of the Q44T in noise-sensitive

applications such as recording studios and
houses of worship.

The output devioesare mounted totwo large,
extruded aluminum heat sinks that are engi-
neered to minimize thermal gradients and
allow the amplifier to opnate safely into low-
impedanoe loads The output devices have a
maximum junction temperature of 200° C
(392° F), so high operational temperatures
present no problems. The output devices are
mounted directly to the heat sinks without
mica insulators to ensure better dissipation
of heat.

The 0441' has sophisticated protection cir-
crtitsthatguarditandtheloadfiomprob-
lems. Protection circuits guard against over-
load, over-temperature, shorted outputs, ra-
dio-frequency interference and dc faults The
output devics are protected against damage
from the reverse feeding of electrical energy
(back EMF) from the load and are switched
on via relays to avoid transients which could
damage speakers. There is also a transformer
saturan'on protection circuit that monitors the
cruretrt demands of the transformer and can
activate the limiters when the input signal
reaches +20 dBu at any frequency.

The 0441' has builtdn limiters to protect
speakers from the deleterious efiects of am-

plifier clipping. The limiters action is con-
trolled by very sophistitzted input/output
comparators which are designed to preserve
the sonic integrity of the source.

The 0441 has electronically-balanced XLR-
type and removable Phoenix Contact Euro-
style" input oomectors in parallel that allow
easy, problem-free connections and signal
routing. The amplifier has an input routing
switch that allows selection of either normal
dual-channel operation or parallel mono op-
eration, which routes an input to both chan-
nels but still allows independent level con-
trol. Optional input transformers may be
added to the amplifier to provide for even
greater immunity from interference.

The Q44Ts Phoenix Contact Euro-style
removable output connector provide sturdy,
reliable connections and allow use of heavy
wire for loss-free signal transmission. There
are easily identifiable connections for the
direct outputs and for the transformer-iso-
lated 75, 70.7 and loo-volt out-puts which
may he used simultaneously.

To prevent ground loops from occurring, the
0441 is equipped with a ground-lift switch.
When the amplifier is operated in a rack with
units of different ground potential, the switch

may be adjusted to eliminate hum.

Separate dB-scaled potentiometets on the
rear panel of the Q44T allow easy regula-
tion of gain. There is easily readable nomen-
clature to ensure easily repeatable control
settings.

The Electra-Voice Q44T is an excellent
choice for high-quality professional sound
system applications which require excellent
sound quality, speaker protection and the
highest level of construction quality and
long~term reliability.
