This pick-up head is suitable for playing both stereo and mono micro-
groove records. For best results with mono records. the two channels
should be connected in parallel.
It is Important that the two channel amplifiers and loudspeaker systems
should be balanced and connected in phase". and your loudspeaker and
amplifier manufacturers will probably have given you instructions to this
effect. A good test for phasing and balance is to play a monaural record.
The sound should then appear to emanate from a point mid-way between
the two loudspeaker systems if the listener is seated mid-way between
the two sound sources.
Before using the ffss III with the Mark I pick-up arm. it is essential to
ensure the arm is capable of being used at two grammes playing weight.
A counter weight adjuster is available for use with the Mark I arms from
our Spares Department.
If the customer suspects below standard rformance at two grammes.
the Mark I arm can be returned to the ecca Service Dept.. where a
modification can be carried out at a reasonable cost.
The Decca Professional pick-up arm is. of course. eminently suitable for
use with the ffss III. The sliding weight should. however. be adlusted to
the two gramme position i.e. the fourth ring from the front of the arm.
GENERAL HINTS
We suggest that the diamond stylus is occasionally brushed with a soft
camel hair brush to remove any accumulation of dust and fluff. The head
should be removed from the arm and the brushing action should be in the
directiOn of the rear of the head towards the front - never across or from
front to rear. Never flick the stylus with the finger as a continuity check. this
can cause serious damage.
Under no circumstancesshould the user attempt to remove dust with a
hard brittle implement. as the stylus may be irretrievably damaged.
When .nstallmg amplifiers. they must be positioned so that the mains trans-
formers are never in the immediate vicinity of the pick-up head. otherwise
undue ' hum' pick-up may result.
Any reliable motor unit is suitable for use with this pick-up providing
that its turntable is nommagnetic. If a magnetic turntable is to be used.
we suggest that a pad of felt or rubber is placed on the turntable so that
the record is lifted 5' above the turntable surface-acorresponding adjust-
ment being made to the height adjustment control. The playing weight
must be checked and readiustcd if necessary.
