The Decca Super Gold is suitable for all types of
microgroove records (not 78rpm coarse
grooves) and is the 'Mark 7' development of a
long, distinguished line of phono cartridges
which have, and are, providing music lovers
worldwide with a standard of record
reproduction acknowledged to be unique.

The thoroughbred qualities of Positive
Scanning - a Decca transducing system
developed to read' the minute modulations of
the record groove and convert them into
electrical energy without the intervention of
additional mechanical means of transmission -
has been retained and enhanced and, by
contouring the powerful internal magnets and
the external casing, the clearance between disc
and cartridge body has been increased, thus
overcoming problems created by warped
pressings.

in even greater stability and the assurance of
constant, optimum performance throughout
the many differing conditions of the world.

(The practice of ultra-low tracking is still not
recommended as it is a fallacy that this will
reduce record wear; too low a playing weight
can in fact increase wear and cause irreparable
damage to the groove walls).

An ideal pick-up arm for the Super Gold would
be one of medium to high mass, have bearings
with the minimum of friction, and efficient
damping.

AFT ERCARE SERVICE

The new Decca SUPER COLD Cartridge is a
precision instrument which will provide years
of pleasure, and to ensure that its optimum
performance is maintained a specialist Decca
Aftercare Service is available. Cartridges are
received back for inspection and performance
check-up, following which they are returned in
top working order.

Every cartridge is guaranteed to be free from
electrical and mechanical defects for one year
from date of purchase, and is supplied with a
16-page booklet giving comprehensive fitting
instructions plus general hints on how to
achieve maximum performance.

and analysed before work commenced.

The knowledge harvested from these
international Decca Devotees created an
invaluable source of information on the
requirements of those seeking enhanced home
musical reproduction - people who involved
themselves in both the technical demands of
fidelity reproduction and the emotional
content of sound and music.

The result of this unique collaboration between
consumer and designer was the Decca Super
Gold cartridge. Prototypes were handmade and
provided for home audition and evaluation.

With van den Hul stylus

The culmination of Decca's worldwide research
into international cartridge needs came with
the incorporation of the famous van den Hul
diamond stylus. The prime benefit of the vdH
stylus is its ability to trace the shape of the
record (disc) grooves accurately.

Following the renowned Dutch scientists
research into the shape of the Cutters used by
record manufacturers for their Master Discs and
the shape of the resulting grooves, assessment
of all existing cartridge stylus tips from conical
to elliptical was made and the degree of
suitability analysed.

The eventual result was the creation of the vdH
Tip which is ultra-flat with a front-to-back
radius of 3.5 microns and a vertical groove
contact radius of 85 microns. This configuration
produces a clearly fixed contact line between
tip and record groove which results in low
vibration, less friction, reduced wear and
distortion, plus better tracking and channel
separation, and problem-free tracing of
frequencies from 20Hz to 20kHz.

Combined with the new Decca Super Gold
cartridge with its own advanced refinements,
the final result is a natural combination which
provides a standard of sophisticated musical
reproduction hitherto unknown. and
incomparable.
