DR-9 POM/ER AMPLIFIER
The debut of the DR-9 represents the first high voltage / high current power ampli.
fier manufactured by Classe Audio. From the exemplary DR-SB and DR-S-VHC models.
many technical and construction parameters have been pristinely retained in the DR-9.
The sole departure is that of a Class AB output stage. Exhaustively researched, we
feel it has been successfully implemented in the DR-9 to provide a dramatic increase
in power. Power that is first and foremost musical, that lifts the restraints of inefficient
loudspeakers or larger Estem'ng rooms. Power that is elegantly produced from an efficient
package, yet one whose trademark is strictly Classé.
In what was to become the DR-9, sacrificing high current for voltage was considered
an unacceptable compromise. Current capability in amplifiers is simply too important
for sound. As a result, power output increases at lower impedances in near textbook
fashion, so that the DR-9 can confidently be used on any load. Its sheer musicality
at high power levels is clearly evident upon auditioning.
Sharing only the linecord and primary of the power transformer, power supplies
for each channel of the DR»9 are separately rectified and amply filtered by custom-
made capacitors (140, 000 uF total) The heart of each DR-9 channel reveals our proven
low level stages. Simple and effective, they provide superb voltage gain which retains
all the subtle nuances of the musical signal. Transparency, harmonic structure, and
soundstage are not substituted by mere power in the DR-9. A new driver stage feeds
the overwhelming output section: 2, 400 Watts/360 Amps per channel, is the nominal
power transistor capability. Fed from the close-proximity power supply, it becomes
easy to justify the DR-9 's effortless dynamic capabilities. The DR-9 features both regu-
lar (single-ended) and balanced inputs. Additionally, soft-start and D. C. protection cir-
cuitry have been incorporated for added reliability and safety. Fashioned in traditional
Classe' form, the DR-9 is refreshingly pleasing to the eye. The real pleasure begins with
its musical performance.
