Sonic purity... harmonic and dimensional resolution. .. transparency...
overt musicality... dynamics... first class components, construction and reliability...
these are the qualities we at Classe Audio strove to build into the DRa7 preamplifier.
Qualities that for years were elusive to solid state components, but which we succeed-
ed to attain in power amplifiers, and now, after more than three years of research and
development, in a preamplifier. The DR-7 promises and delivers not only in musical
performance, but also in design of features, flexibility and ergonomics. It can satisfi/
the purist of single-source audio chains, or a multitude of sources and connections,
each tailored to suit its particular requirements.

A large remote power supply initiates the building blocks of five individual supv
plies, each designated for a particular section of the dual-mono circuit. Power supply
lines are transferred to the main unit through a firlly detachable cable assembly, com-
prised of custom-made wire terminated at both ends with Swiss-made Lemo connectors.

The DR-7 features two phono inputs. each of which has selectable MC or MM gain,
impedance, and capacitive loading, The phono circuit combines carefully selected FETs
and bipolar transistors, a passive RIAA network, and zero overall feedback. High level

facilities include an adjustable filtered CD input, tuner, auxiliary, and two tape loops.
These inputs are fed to a refined linear circuit which includes an emitter follower stage
to develop low output impedance and considerable current to drive the longest of inter-
connect cables. Double output jacks for each channel facilitate biamplification set-ups,

The DR-7 relies exclusively on analog controls and switches. Laboratory tests and
listening sessions revealed that the control devices we chose greatly excel the increas-
ingly popular digital and voltage controlled types which definitely affect the sound. Special
relays, for example, employed for remote switching and muting, generously used in
the U.S. Space Shuttle, represent exciting new advancements in analog technology.
But the apex of all the controls is destined to be our custom-discrete volume control,
by far a reference for even the best conductive plastic potentiometers. Custom-milled
knobs do justice to these fine controls.

Complete auto/manual muting circuits, milled handles and faceplates engraved in
the Classe tradition, even a heavy buss strip for stargrounding" have been included.
The priority of each feature in the DR-7 preamplifier was function, yet they all contri-
bute not only to the sound, but to the form and feel of a product that is uniquely Classe.
