DR-5 PREAMPLIFIER

The DR-S is a full-size, hill-feature preamplifier which can compliment the finest
of audio systems Its level of transparency, detail, resolution, and soundstaging make
it comparable to the best solidstate or tube units costing many times more. This has
been accomplished by means of sophisticated circuitry, streamlined signal paths, an
efficient single package, and leading-edge features such as true balanced outputs.

Starting with a toroidal transformer which has eight times the required power and
is hilly shielded in copper, the power supply boasts eight stages of regulation and
73,200 uF of filter capacitance. This, and all other AC. line components (linecord, hise,
accessory outlets) are further isolated by a heavy shield plate. The unique moving coil
stage has selfiadjusting impedance and variable gain {eleven settings possible with the
included, precision resistor kit). Magnetic photo gain and equalization feature zero feed
back and a passive RIAA network.

The unprecedented true balanced high-level section finishes with an ultra- high beta
(current gain) stage which results in the preamplifier having an output impedance of
less than one ohm. One percent, metal-film resistors are used throughout. Polystyrene
and polypropylene capacitors are used in the RIAA equalization as well as bypass appli-
cations. The components are sonically arranged on a single printed circuit board which,
like all Classé PCB '5, features oxygen-free deposited copper sealed with an infrared
solder mask. All controls and switches are first quality with gold and silver contacts,
and utilization of them is completely silent, free of noise or pulses. Other features include
switches for phono bypass", phase inversion, and muting. Input and output jacks
are Tiffany gold plated, and the balanced outputs are Swiss~made, gold plated XLR
connectors.

Whether judged by its sonic merit or its handcrafted quality, this preamp is clearly
