[lllll'fi] TAPE [INK
As most ownen of High Fidelity sound reptneducing equipment
will know. tlpc recordings cannot be made lrom the amplifiers
and put-amplifiers by simply connecting a tape deck to the
sockets marked 'Record'. a vital 'Link between tape deck and
amplifying equipment is required, i.e., specially designed recording
amplifiers incorporating high lrequencv Erase Bias mlllnlols
matched for use with the heads on the tape deck
Similarly for playback purposes, if the very beat repmduction
at all tape speeds is to he accompliihcd, specially designed play»
back pre-amplifiers must be incorporated between the tape duh
and the pre-nmplifieri ot the High Fidelity equipment.
11:: Brenell Hi-Ft Tape Link contains twm recording ampli-
ficn, lPush Pull' Bias Erase oscillator, twm playback prenmplificn
and it. designed for use with :a three headed stereophonlu tape
deck. i.e., separate Erase Recording and ll-vback heads of either
the hall track or quarter track types {Lin of tecuitittiended heads
included in the specification notes) and any make of High Fidelity
amplifying equipment capable of supplying a signal level from
Radio Tuners. Microphones Gramophone Pickups. etc, of at
least 75 niillivolts [th output from a Ill-Ft pre-iimp usually
ranges trom 125 to 500 millivolts .
Mono and Stereo recording facilities are provxded and whilst
recording is iii progress one mat listen to the recorded material it
traction of a setnnd after recording has taken place or tn the
signal being fed in the recording iimplihcr. (Comparison of the
recorded and original signals may he undertaken ._ Two edgewise
«titled illuminated meters indicate the recording aim] level and
dual concentric gain control: give indmdual control of the two
recording amplifiers. Variable Bias enables the recordiat to
obtain optimum result; at all tape speeds with all brands of tnpe.
:rcqucncv correction for (on: tape speeds. both for recording and
replay-mg. is incorporated.
To ensure elimination of hum. the amplifiers are completely
enclosed in ii strong metal case. valves are DC. heated and the
power unit lh on a separate chassis in order tlnt it may be mounted
where it cannot introduee hum into the system.
Sockets iii the rear of the Link enable it to be connected to
the tape deck and high fidelity equipment Without the need to
expose the coupling cables hut (in the front panel are socket:
which enable additional equipment to be connected for recording
and replaying purposes, e.g., should a retvrding he made from
some other tape recorder this recorder's output would be con-
nened It! the front pnnel input sockets whilst the output sockets
on the from panel would be used if a copy of a tape were to be
made on the other recorder. The rat sockets are disconnected
whenever the front panel sockets are used
