INTRODUCTION
Thank you tor purchasing saw DMGOO Series speakers.
Since its toundation in 1966. the continuing philosophy at 88W has been the quest lor perlect sound reproduction. Inspired
by the companys tounder. the late John Bowers, this quest has entailed not only high investment in audio technology and
innovation but also an abiding appreciation at music to ensure that the technology is put to maxmium etlect.
It is also our policy to make sure the advanced leatures pioneered on one product are incorporated into others we
manulaclure.
DMGOD Series systems have cabinets with rounded edges to reduce sound dillraction (the re-radiation ol sound waves trom
sharp edges that intertere with and blur the direct sound trom the drive units). incorporating woven Kevlar® cone
bass/midrange drive units lor lowest coloration and maximum delinition. They also have alloy dome tweeters with
magnetic lluid cooling to ensure good delinition to the limits at audtbility and maintain dynamucs to high sound levels. All
these leatures were originally developed lor the acclaimed 85W 800 Series systems and go towards the realisation at line
transducers.
However. no matter how good the speakers themselves. they must work well into the listening room and time spent on the
installation process Will reap the reward at many hours listening pleasure. Please read through this manual lully. It will
help you optimise the perlormance at your audio system.
B&W distribute to over 50 countries world-wide and maintain a network at dedicated distributors who will be able to help
should you have any problems your dealer cannot resolve.
UNPACKING (ligure 1)
Fold the top carton llaps right back and invert the carton and contents,
Lilt the carton clear at the contents.
Remove the inner packing lrom the product.
We suggest you retain the packaging lor luture use.
CONNECTIONS (ligures 2 A 3)
All connections should be made with the equipment turned all.
There are two pairs ol gold plated terminals at the back ol each speaker (one pair to the bass/midrange and one pair to the
tweeter) which permit bi-wiring or bi-amplilicalion il desired. On delivery. both pairs are connected together by high-
quality gold plated copper links tor use with a Single twm cable.
For srngte cable connection. connect either at the posmve terminals on the speaker (marked 0 and coloured red) to the
posrtive terminal on the power amplilier and negative (-. black) to negative (tigure 2). Failure to observe correct polarity
will result in poor sound balance and image locusmg.
When bi-wiring the speakers. loosen the terminal caps and remove the links Use a separate twin cable lrorn the amplilier
terminals to each pair at speaker terminals (tigure 3t. Correct polarity connection is even more critical in this case to
maintain the lrequency response at each speaker as well as the correct balance between tell and right speakers. The use
ol separate cables can improve the reproduction ol tow-level detail by reducing interaction in the crossover and allowing
optimum choice ol cable lor each lrequency range.
Always make sure all the terminal caps are screwed down tight as otherwise they may rattle,
When choosmg cable. keep the total electrical impedance (out and back) below the marrimum recommended in the
specilication. In particular. the cable to the tweeter should have low inductance. otherwise the very high lrequencies will
be attenuated. Ask your dealer lor advrce. as the optimum cable will depend on the length required.
POSITIONING (tiguredj
Some experimentation with the position at the speakers is well worthwhile to optimise the interaction between them and
the listening room. However. as an initial gurde:
Place the speakers on lirm stands or bookshelves that place the tweeters approximately at ear level.
Place the speakers and the centre at the listening area approximately at the corners ol an eqwlateral triangle.
Keep the speakers at least 1.5m (5lt) apart to maintain tell-right stereo separation.
Keep the speaker battles at least 0.5m (20in) clear ot walls. Having the speakers too close to walls increases the level at
bass relative to the midrange and may give a boomy quality to the sound.
I I N E T U N I N G
Belore tine tuning the installation. double check the polarity and security at the connections
It the level ol bass is uneven Wllh lrequency. this is usually due to strong excutation ol resonance modes in the room.
Even small changes in the posnion ol the speakers within the listening room can have a prolound ellect on the perceived
sound quality by altering the excitation ol these modes. Try mounting the speakers along a dillerent wall. Even moving large
pieces ol turniture about can have an ellect.
It the general level at bass is too high. try movtng the speakers turther away lrom the walls. Conversely. it you need more
bass. move the speakers closer to the walls. Space behind the speakers also improves the impression ol perspective on
we" recorded material.
It the central image is poor. try movtng the speakers closer together or toeing them in so they paint at or Just in tront ol
the listening area (figure 5).
It the sound is too harsh, increase the amount ol sott turnishing in the room For example, use heavier curtains Conversely
reduce the amount at solt lurnishing it the sound is dull and lileless.
Test lor llutter echoes by clapping your hands and listening tor rapid repetitions. These can smear the sound. but may be
reduced by irregular shaped surlaces such as bookshelves and large pieces at lurniture.
Ensure the speakers are tirmly supported. Speaker stands should be regarded as part at the speaker and chosen with care.
Ask your dealer tor advice on the best stands lor your needs.

The Vinyl veneers normally only requna dusting. It you wish to use an aerosol cleaner. remove the grille lirst by gently
pulling it away lrorn the cabinet. Spray onto the cleaning cloth. not directly onto the cabinet. The grille labric may be
cleaned with a normal clothes brush alter removing the grille lrom the cabinet.
Avaid touching the drive units. espeCIally the tweeter. as damage may result.
