AT-OCS Dual Moving Coil Phono

Cartridge Instruction Manual

The AT-OCS MC is an excellent dual moving-coil {MC} phono cartridge with high
cost performance. Read this manual carefully before usrng the AT-OCS MC].

AT-OCS MC Features

0 Low moving-mass cantilever system

The AT-OC5 MC uses a Biradial nude-diamond stylus and a hard aluminum
cantilever. Therefore. it is both very light and small. The armatures are
constructed to form an inverted ",V and a new type of ceramic adhesive is used
to join them to the cantilever. The use of a vertical stabilizer further increases
tracking stability.

. The coil is made from PCOCCBN. a new material which has an extreme purity
of 999999670 copper. The terminal pins are PCOCC material. This guarantees
a more refined and purer transmission.

. Neodymium magnet greatly increase the magnetic energy. The neodymium
magnet supplys approx. 34% more magnetic energy than the old material. This
strengthens the magnetic field at the coil gap.

l Vertical section of deflerent crystalline structures:

As you can see. while the normal tough pitch copper has crystals which grow
inwardly. and thus generate innumerable vertical crystalline particle fields.
PCOCCSN almost looks like a single crystal.

0 Designed resonance elimination using hardened plastic parts.

The magnetic circuit fixture section and the body undercover are made from
hardened plastic. The mounting base is milled from a solid block of aluminum
and finished with alumite and the housing is made from a hard plated plastic.

Using the AT-OCS MC

:1" Begin extremely careful not to damage the cantilever system. mount the
cartridge body to the headshe I. Do not fully tighten the mounting screws yet.

2. Note the polarity of the output pins. and attach the leads from the headshell by
fitting the lugs over the pins. Figure A shows the leads for a universal tonearm
headshell. Attach these leads to the cartridge pins of the same color. If the lug fit
is loose. press the lugs smaller before plugging them in, but never solder or apply
heat to these pins.

3 Adjust cartridge overhang. This adjustment will depend on your particular
turntablemodel. and overhang specifications can be found in the turntable
instruction manual. If this is not available. line the old cartridge/headshell
assembly face-to-face with the new assembly (Fig. 8), and make the adjustment
accordingly. Inaccurate overhang will adversely affect tone quality. If possible. this
adjustment should be within :1 mm of specified value.

t4 Adjust VTF (vertical tracking force). VTF Fug, 3) rm WWW

for the AT'OC5 MC is 1.5 .1025 grams. 1" should be accurate
and the 1.59 standard value should
normally be used. However. if your 1

turntable is located in a cold environment.
or is subjected to vibration. use a heavier
value (up to 1.759).

:5: Adjust tonearm height (on turntables having this adjustment). Adjust tonearm
pivot base height until the bottom surface of the headshell is parallel with the
surface of the record (view straight across the record). Incorrect tonearm height
can cause the cartridge to rub the record. and otherwise degrade tone quality.

6 A step-up transformer or head amp will be required to connect the cartridge to
the amplifier. Audio-Technica offers several step-up transformers that will provide
excellent service. (See the Audio-Technica General Products Catalog.) If a
transformer is used. input impedance should be 20:2 or more. while ideal input
impedance for a headamp is 1009.

7- Always keep the stylus clean. The brush Cleaning mestvlus
provided should be used to keep the stylus tip
free of dirt and lint. Use of Audio-Technica stylus
cleaners AT607 or AT637 (optional) is highly
recommended. When the cartridge/headshell
assembly is removed from the tonearm. always
keep the stylus guard in place, and store it away Brush only from back to from
from heat sources (such as amplifiers. etc.).

£8? The stylus is replaced by replacing the cartridge itself. When the stylus is worn.
take it to your Audio-Technica dealer for replacement at a special price.
